Depends on the MGW of the vehicle. Under 7.5 tonnes and it's fine, over 7.5 tonne and it's not allowed. I'd imagine most single car transporters will be less than 7.5 tonnes.

The Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982
I’d personally ban all vans (except car based ones) from the 3rd lane of the motorway together with restricting their speed to 70 MPH. I do circa 25k miles per year, mainly on Motorways and most van driving standards are truly horrific.
Whenever I’m held up because of a motorway accident, 9 times out of 10 a van is involved.
