In my ignorance I was going to suggest that the Russkies copied the Seamew, but on checking I find that Shorts may have copied Ilyushin . (Or arrived at the same solution independently, of course.)
There have been quite a few aircraft with that 'cabover' arrangement of pilot above single engine, and all of them look pretty gormless. The Blackburn R1 Blackburn was another:

Handley Page Hampden, Short Skyvan
Definitely not the Hampden. I always thought it was quite a stylish aeroplane (although not the prototype). And the Skyvan is quite cute.
Much of the output of the Blackburn company, especially between the wars, was very challenged in the looks department.

Some of my favourite planes are ugly or functional designs, often experimental aircraft built when you had to make and fly them to see if they were any good.
RAF Cosford has a hangar full of experimental planes including one designed to be able to fly incredibly slowly (and presumably abandoned because helicopters).
I also love the Komet which looks like a mouse on a hang glider but is somehow appealing. It looks too cute to be a Nazi aircraft design somehow.
