So, have just changed from Android (Galaxy Note) to an Iphone (13) so thought I may as well use the CarPlay feature on the car, but having spent the last 10 minutes messing around, I am struggling to understand what is needed to be done.

I assume (maybe incorrectly) that it is 'wireless' so I don't need to plug the phone into the central port. If I do need to plug it into the USB that is the next issue, as I don't have a lead which goes from USB to iphone.

Suppose the questions are;

1. Is it 'wireless' or it is 'wired only' on the 991.2 ?

2. If I need a wire, then is it a specific one, or just any USB to iphone one ?

It is very unlikely to be wireless as my (early) 992 isn't, but stranger things have happened!
Just use a normal usb cable, they always suggest an Apple one (that may have come with the phone?), but any should work.

Thanks. I'll get a lead and give it a go.

Carplay kicks in (usually) when you plug the phone in (assuming the car is powered up).

Good luck,

Done exactly the same thing in the last few weeks.

I purchased a 991.2 and swapped my phone to apple for the sole purpose of car play. To be fair, I’m glad I did as it works a great. Much less distractions when driving now, as I’d often be fiddling around with the phone for Google maps or Spotify.

I like to keep my phone charged, so no drama I being plugged in and as an added bonus, it’s refreshing to just hide it away in the centre console an not need a tacky car mount (which wouldn’t really work on the vents anyway).

I did consider the android hack on the PCM but ultimately couldn’t be doing with the hassle.

Carlinkit2 dongle will make it wireless. Shop around prices all over the place. have it on my 991.2 works well.

Apple CarPlay on PCM is hit and miss and really disappointing. I get that tech isn’t the first priority in a sports car but Porsche are part of VAG and it could be a lot better. Sometimes CarPlay doesn’t work at all and I have to turn the car off as opposed to to the phone. I would have loved the option of using android auto but relented and bought an iPhone. You can use the button on the steering wheel but only after an update. My last car (2017) was updated during its service and the feature was enabled after I asked the OPC to look at it.

Short story = Apple CarPlay in Porsche is crap and could be a lot better!!
