Mobile camera alert service launches

Get text alerts about new mobile speed cameras

Knowledge is power
Knowledge is power
CamTracker is a new UK-based service that sends SMS alerts to your phone about new mobile police speed camera locations.

CamTracker subscribers will receive text message alerts on their hands-free mobile phone whenever a mobile police speed camera is reported in their local area.

The company said that it "uses the latest online technology to distribute SMS alerts to its subscribers within seconds of a mobile safety camera site being reported in their local area". Each text message alert provides the location and direction of the police speed camera site. No special equipment is needed, just a hands-free mobile phone.

It costs 35p per day and accounts are manageable online, so you can choose your preferred locations for alerts and what time of day you wish to receive them.

Great idea, but what is the 'local area', is this my local area, or local to the location of my phone.

When travelling over the country, would be more useful to get updates about camera local to oneself.

From their website...

"CamTracker is an SMS based service, sending a text message alert to you mobile phone when a mobile speed camera is reported in your chosen area - you can choose up to 5 counties to receive alerts for."

i agree with above, no points but at 35p per day...doesn't ACTUALLY make any financial sense when you think about it. to me its just another way to get money off us (general public - motorists in this case)

This is slightly off-topic but; that picture of the Tallivan is pretty special, do you think they cold find a bigger sign to put in the back of a bigger vehicle?

But really, what's the point? As traffic coppers are so fond of saying; as soon as you can see them, they can see you, and a Tallivan is equiped with a laser gun hooked up to a video recorder, so as soon as they see you they've got all the evidence they need. So what is the point of having a sign in the back? NONE AT ALL!

Perhaps to discharge their responsiblilty of providing a certain frequency of camera warning signs along roads that are camera patrolled.

At just short of £130pa I suppose the savings on scamera fines would be offset by bib fines for reading mobile text messages while driving.....

Yes that looks nothing like a small dirty suzuki van with one door open at the back...

SMS is really reliable

At least it will be good to know there was a camera on the road that you were speeding along 2 days ago

What is the difference between somebody warning people about the traps and getting fined for obstructing the Police and this service? Are they equally guilty as are the partnerships by publishing their weekly list of sites to be visited?
