Porsche-fest at Essen Show
Porker-packed show demonstrates car's versatility
Pictures and details are coming of the cars at the Essen Motor Show -- and it's a Porsche-fest. There's loads to show you -- more on Monday.
TechArt Porsche Boxster Widebody
Included is the TechArt Widebody based on the Porsche Boxster 987. TechArt claimed that front spoiler reduces lift at the front axle and improves brake cooling. It includes custom-made versions of the one-piece TechArt Formula five spoke wheel, 8.5Jx20 at the front, 11Jx20 rear. The company recommends ContiSportContact 2 high performance tyres in sizes 235/30 ZR 20 front and 305/25 ZR 20 rear. The height-adjustable TechArt sport suspension includes coil-over suspension that lowers the car by some 25mm.
TechArt also offers engine tuning for the Widebody, consisting of air filter and re-programmed electronics delivering an additional 15bhp.
TechArt Porsche Carrera S
We also spotted that Porsche Carrera S issued to the German traffic police -- see earlier story link below. Again from TechArt, the S reaches a top speed of some 187mph from an upgrade to its 3.8-litre flat-six. It now sports 370bhp, up 15bhp, and so hits 62mph in 4.5 seconds. The wind tunnel-tested aero kit is joined by TechArt Formula 20-inch five-spoke wheels with 235/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 tyres, and by the custom-calibrated TechArt Vario sport suspension with struts that are adjustable in height, bound and rebound. Interior fittings include an ergonomic TechArt sport steering wheel with airbag.
TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
With 530bhp and 546lb-ft of torque at 3,850rpm, the car now rockets to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds, and hits 200kph (125mph) in 12.5 seconds. Vmax is 201mph. One of the world's fastest convertibles, the car still complies with emission standards.

Modifications to this car bring it to 382bhp -- up from 355bhp -- using:
- BMC sport air filter

It includes an aero kit and braking system with eight-pot calipers at the front gripping 380mm discs, and four-pots at the rear with 330mm discs. The Ruf sport suspension works with 8.5x19 wheels at the front, 11x19 rears. The price of the car is €149,000 -- about £100k.

Swiss Porsche specialist Sportec presents the Boxster SP370. Based on the Porsche 987 Boxster S it offers 370bhp with max torque of 236lb-ft. It includes Sportec Aero kit high performance brake system at the front including six-piston brake calipers with 350 mm front discs and Sportec wheels (front 8.5 x19, rear 10x19).
TechArt Sports Outfit for Porsche Cayman
This consists of a front spoiler mounted to the production bumper for reduced front lift at high speeds, side sills for airstream calming between front and rear wheel housing. One-piece, lightweight TechArt Formula wheels are available in 17, 18, 19 or 20-inch diameters, the biggest featuring 8.5Jx20 wheels with ContiSportContact 2 tyres in size 235/30 ZR 20 (front) and 11Jx20 wheels with 305/25 ZR 20 tyres (rear). Ride height is lowered by some 25-30mm using TechArt sport springs, with a sport suspension with firmer ride in testing.
New interiors in all colours and designs are available, such as ergonomically shaped airbag sport steering wheels with three or four spokes, and aluminium foot pedals, shift knob and foot rest, plus stainless-steel sill plates with TechArt logo. A stainless-steel sports exhaust is in development.
We also hear that TechArt is developing a 3.8-litre engine for the Cayman with 380bhp.
Heidl B997
This consists of a Porsche Boxster 986 mated to the front of a Porsche 997, modified by Roland Heidl of Düsseldorf. It offers 395bhp with max torque 311lb-ft, a top speed 188mph and a zero to 62mph time of 4.1 seconds. Why...?
Zeintec Zeintop
Based in South Africa and Switzerland, Zeintec makes a carbon-fibre hard top to make your Porsche Boxster look like a Cayman. The hard top shown at Essen is the first prototype, and Zeintec is already working at the second prototype which has some light modifications regarding the side window. It's due to be finished in February. Expect a price around €4,500 (£3,000).

Surly half the point of a Porsche is that it doesn’t need to use shock tactics like styling or massive power figures to make people sit up and take notice, just to allure them with it’s ability. Ultimately it does what a performance car should do better than any of it’s major competitors, brings the joy of ownership to customers. I suppose you could equate this to watch making, you can add as many gadgets as you want but if a watch doesn’t keep time well it’s not really serving it’s primary reason for existence.
But I saw a lot cars that day, many nice special stuf, like the Technocars GTR and the Gumpert Apollo wich has a very nice interiour, but what I like most as a "allrounder" was the Wiesmann GT(not that color on the showcar) I was there in the factory also this year those cars are amasing, complettely different from the wiesmann roadstar the GT chassis is like that from a lotus elise! all alluminium and the V8 now a 367hp, but they talk with BMW they want to put the M5 V10 in it, or the M5 V8, both sound nice to me
