Porsche 996 Turbo - 600BHP, Pics!
Discussion
Later last year I posted some pics of a modified 996 Turbo (600BHP).
Here are some action shots of the same car, a Pistonhead's member Porsche...
Hope you don't mind me posting!
Rest of the 996 Turbo pics can be seen on my site - www.justhypemedia.com

interesting
an X50 with K24s = 450bhp, obviously manuafacturer tolerances are conservative but of that list what contributes to the extra 150bhp. I know DMS and the like get to 520bhp with just a chip on an X50 (added boost and timing) so do the intercoolers and exhaust contribute the extra 80bhp? i think the other items seem worthwhile but would not add much power (but I am not expert).
Hi Adam, the car is more in region of 570/580 brake and can clarify not 600. The reason for this is that I recently did a whole load of timing sessions on the Race Technology AX22 Data logger and sent the file off for verification. They got back to me and told me by the looks of these figures I was running nearly 600bhp compared with other 996 Turbo figures (Data files) they received.
The Following Timings: Best 0-60 was 3.6 sec | Best 0-100 was 7.5 sec | Best 1/4 Mile was 11.6 sec | Best 60-130 was 8.3 sec (this is kick down from 50mph)
The PSI programme, K24's, 5bar FPR, Filter, Exhaust alone makes 560bhp (I will get torque figures later as they are real impressive!) on Top of this you have the Custom Intercoolers, Flowed Headers, Upgraded Wastegates, which being realistic would make another 20 or so!
If I continue with any work I will have to have internals done as I am now approaching levels that the engine is going to be put under a lot of stress, currently having ongoing discussions with someone regarding this!

That's very impressive....when you say 'kick-down' do you mean that it is a 'TIP'?
Yip! This is a Tippy.
To be exact, you run at constant 50mph, then pin it!
60 to 130 in 8.3 is pretty good when you look at list of times below (as per 6speed website)
I'm sure "Rods" car is going to be stupidly quick!, It will for sure be low 7's. I'm hooking up with him once he has his beast up and running perfect and we will be doing some figures with the AX22.
For the sake of comparison, here are some 60-130 times for some fast production cars:
6.1 - Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
6.9 - Mosler MT900S
7.0 - Ferrari Enzo
7.3 - Porsche Carrera GT
8.9 - Mercedes SLR McLaren
9.1 - Porsche 993 RUF Turbo R (100 octane)
9.2 - Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06
9.4 - Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0
9.5 - Ferrari F430
10.9 - Lamborghini Murcielago
11.7 - Ferrari Challenge Stradale
12.1 - Lamborghini Gallardo
12.2 - Porsche 996TT

Hi there
Gotta say what a great looking car and incredibly impressive performance too.
At the moment I own a 532BHP which managed to do 35-115mph just using 3rd gear in 10.5s, so its no slouch, not as good as a Porsche through the twisties but surprisingly good.
In the next 6-12 months I shall be looking for a 996 Turbo and will indeed be tuning it. Therefor can you tell me more about your modifications please such as the ECU programming and how much each step cost you and what order you did them in?
Have you driven both the manual and tiptronic? Can you tell me about the tiptronic and how its works please? Pluse does the ECU Remap do anything to the tiptronic such as gear changes etc?

There hopefully should be an article coming soon in Total911 Mag, so you can read up there!
What is your 532bhp?
All I can advise is do your own homework, I was on the net for weeks and weeks sourcing information on various tuning products, looking at all the good/bad points etc
As for Manual/Tiptronic. If I was to make a choice now it would be manual, but this would not be for some of the reason others come up with on this forum!!! lol
As you know I have the Tippy, It was a sensible decision as I live in centre of Edinburgh and my car was being used on a daily basis back then (the traffic is serious hell in Edinburgh!!!) The reason I would change is that the car is used mostly on weekends now but this is not to say the Tippy is an awful drive! Yip in Auto mode sometimes it can get a little boaring, but I have totally converted my driving style over the past year and I think this is the secret, now when giving it some, I pop it into manual mode and let the fingers do the talkin', some left foot braking as usual and you get some fun back, it could also be that the car is running big power now and the response is pretty quick. The only minor issue I have found with the Tippy is when in "D" Mode (Auto) and you want to pin it, It occasionally has had a mind of it's own! on most occasions it would drop a gear and take off fine, but every once in a while it doesn't and it's like missing a gear, this is more than likely due to the sensor recognition the Tiptronic has. The Tippy isn't the best if you want to lauch quick from the traffic lights (Santa Pod stylee etc) There is a very slight delay from you flooring it, to take off! this again probably due to the cars brain, but there is various techniques to launching a tiptronic and you can make it fly (Look at the numbers from my data) I must stress this "THE TIPTRONIC IS IN NOW WAY SLOWER" If you launch it just right, you will be up there!
Please note, Don't do this one! floor it in manual also dropped into 1st with PSM off. I had to wash my boxers!

truly impressive figures! What confuses me is that someone on here in the tuning trade (ie far more knowledgeable than me) mentioned that tip put a limit on safe power maximums, think 500bhp was mentioned
Did anyone raise this issue with you or have you strengthened the gearbox?
