British track days in Spain

Oversteer in the sun

Head to Spain for sunny trackdays
Head to Spain for sunny trackdays
Fed up with our dismal summer? A new company is offering professionally run trackdays in southern Spain.

‘Trackdays Spain’ is aiming to provide a ‘first class, well organised track day, keeping driver numbers low (45 is the limit) to maximise track time and limit waiting time with safety a priority on the day.’ They’re aiming at those who keep cars in the locality or who might be touring on holiday with their cars.

Apparently, an Enzo and a Ferrari 550 Barchetta are among the cars already signed up, as well as a Triumph TR8 and the usual suspects from marques such as BMW. The company will offer expert advice from a professional FIA GT3 championship race driver and from the Track Days team that has over 20 years combined experience in organising track days.

The business is aiming to operate between circuits such as Ascari that offer days but at very expensive rates and days organised by Spanish providers at the budget end of the market.

The company has its official launch on 27th July at the Spanish circuit Guadix. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it is only 90 minutes from Malaga and is said to offer superb racing facilities at a much lower cost than similar tracks.

For the launch, there’s a special price of 299€ per person, which includes: circuit time, expert advice, lunch, refreshments and prizes.

Days can be arranged on an individual basis or for groups and the firm is also offering bespoke corporate days.

Looks Great - I've been running trackdays at Guadix for over four years and Clive and his team do an excellent job. Groups are always well regulated, marshalling is good and the circuit is great - even better since full resurfacing last winter

Let's hope it goes well

The guy that is running it - Mike Knivett - is a very professional guy too. Makes a success of every business he turns his hand to, and is a car nut to boot (former 996 GT2 owner, currently a Radical, a Ferrari and other kit). I've done plenty of track days with him and would be confident this project will do well.

I wonder if they have thought about travel packages? Looks a great place to go, but a bit of a trek with the trailer on the back.

that'd be great you could buy a new car and drive it there and when you get there it would be run in.

fairly sure I could buy a new car in castle donington and have it "run in" by the time I got to Donington Park - I guess it depends on your level of mechanical sympathy :-)

Guadix is a brilliant track, resurfaced over the winter I was there in January. Clive who owns the track is one of the nicest people around.

Haven't done a track day there but the area surrounding Guadix is absolutely beautiful! My wife and I have been going there since the mid-80's! If anyone decides to go and wants an 'exciting' road to drive their car on try the road from La Calahorra to Puerto de la Ragua! Then try it the other way (i.e downhill!) it's even more 'exciting'!

I could find no reference to noise limits on the website, Im guessing if an enzo is going there cant be a limit..

is it true that the spanish are a much more enlightened bunch of poeple who dont buy a house next to a race track and then start complaining about the noise?

For info - Guadix currently has no noise restrictions. This is because no-one lives within miles of it - the nearest habitations are at Gor services which are about 2-3 KM away and all you can hear there is the motorway. The views of the mountains from the pit wall do make it a pretty special place to do a track day.

Added to which -

A. the Spanish are mad about high performance cars
B. The Spanish themselves make a lot of noise and tolerate others who do - it's all part of the party!

Cant get it - why would you need the sun for a good track day - are British so obsessed with the blody sun ? I'm not in Spain, give me good inexpensive track days in here now, hehe.

I mean no offence and good luck to anyone who lives in Spain...

The Spanish are becoming as mad about 4 wheels as they are about 2 wheels thanks to rallying and F1.
I am a Spaniard and no exception to the rule, although i prefer 4 wheels to two. bandit

Nothing quite like a hot sticky track, decent track day tyres and a good car for a day of adrenalin filled fun. Even if you drive a Seat Leon you can still have a great craic on track, and if you don't make it to the track there are some absolutely brilliant deserted mountain roads in the South of Spain that are perfect for enthusiastic drivers.

The diesel Hyundai Getz i was given as a hire car just recently had some interesting handling traits on some of the tight hairpins around the SW of Spain. Gets my vote as the most awful car i have ever driven. hehe

Thanks to everyone that has posted positive messages regarding the launch of my Spanish track days business. I believe the circuit at Guadix and the great weather here together with fair prices and some sensible operating procedures including zero nise restrictions and in car data logging should make the days we organise bloody good fun.

For people who are looking to come down from the UK I am talking with Jasper about some great deals he has with ferry and hotel companies, if you are in Spain but a different region then there is a hotel literally 3 mins from the circuit which is a 3 star and perfectly acceptable and is approx 36 euros a night with some good food as well.

I have had enquiries from quite a few Pistonheaders who want to come over and wondered if we had any cars for hire, this is something I am looking into and am flying over to the UK next week to visit MNR to look at their trackday bike powered kits which look superb and can accomodate upto 6ft 6 drivers.

If anyone has any tips for getting these insured whilst they are rented to our clients I would be really grateful for advice.

I look forward to seeing some of you guys out in Spain in the future and to all those guys who we had so much fun with 2 or 3 years back, get your cars out and get over here soon.

Thanks once again

Mike

Just to bump this back up !

What a great circuit ! The day was superb and what a delight to see the Enzo going round the track. Next event is on the 7th September and there may even be an Elise & Westfield available to hire too
