Pantera rocks again?
A new De Tomaso concept
These computer generated images of a spiritual successor to the De Tomaso Pantera supercar are the work of German designer Stefan Schulze.
The Italian-bodied and Ford V8-powered Pantera lived from 1971 right until the late 1990s, growing ever more outlandish spoilers and bodywork in traditional supercar fashion.
For his interpretation, Schulze has used the Lamborghini Gallardo as a base, and returned to the clean lines of the original in much the same manner as Luc Donckerwolke adopted with his superb Audi-era Lamborghini designs.
With a rumoured De Tomaso revival in the pipeline, this might not be the last we see of a reborn Pantera…

....seems to have gone the way of the record industry...forever sampling old tunes...not too much that's original these days!
Funny how Ford were the first to do it with their "Living Legends"... the motor industry accuses them of having no new ideas... them promptly follows suit... Is this story anything other than about some design student using photoshop to modernise the Pantera? Is that news?
Why would anyone want to rebody a Gallardo, which is hardly a pig. And what excatly would make it a De Tomaso, given that it would have Lamborghini running gear underneath. I can't imagine anyone wanting to rip that out to put a Ford V8 in it to make it authentic.
This is little more than me sticking a fez on and announcing I am the new Tommy Cooper.

You see so many of these things. People go, "Holy crap, WOW!!!!!" - and then no car manufacturer ever builds the bloody things!
Strikes me that the only manufacturer I can think of that produces real cars which look like road-going concepts, are Ferrari.
Look at the moose that is the Porsche Panamera.
:shakes head:
Just someone hire the designer and build the fricken thing!
P~

The problem is they get designers to style these things...
Classic example, as part of my degree we (Ergonomists) worked with Designers and Auto Engineers to produce a car for a project... it went something like this...
Designer: What do you think..?
A. Engineers: Looks good, but where's the engine going to go..?
Ergomonomists: Sod the engine, how the hell is anyone going to fit in it..?
Designer: But it looks good, right?

Big-ups to the ergonomist! I have a vast respect for ergonomists, my industrial placement was with MG/Rover just before they folded, doing research for a new interior for the TF. It was hard work! I am a designer, I do a little engineering and lots of ergo on all my projects now, not just package drawings. As for the Pantera, the front looks a bit ham-fisted, they could have made it alot more elegant, like the original.
I'm not convinced that a Gallardo fits under there at all, the cabin seems waaaay to far back - as if you'd be sitting on the engine.
The previous post with a picture of a Ford GT looked far more approprite a starting point, although, how much it would cost to rebody a GT is anybodies guess.
Also, I'm pretty sure this is just a design student. The name rings a bell from the Designerspace website where I used to look around about 4/5 years ago. If it is the guy I'm thinking of then his stuff was very basic back then and I expect he was pre-university age - so is probably just graduating now. All supposition, but it does just seem a pretty picture really.

Why not put it side by side with the original DeTomaso Pantera? After all that is what it is based on.Hendry said:

Exclusivity perhaps? I'd much rather drive round in one of those than a Gallardo of which you see loads all the time. I think it looks stunning too! I did some stuff at Rover, but I was working for MIRA at the time...
Funny thing is, when everyone got together it was stunning what could be produced...
