for something graphic, at the end of 30 Days of Night, there is a beheading that is so close up and done with clever cgi that made it so realistic, it was bloody horrible.

I was pretty stunned by the garage owner's suicide in the new 'Hills Have Eyes'. Clever CGI in there too, my jaw just hit the floor.

as did his

Scene in Misery where James Caan gets hobbled.
Strange Japanese film, one of those you wish you'd never seen, where the protaganist gets tied up and then the pscho wife sticks pins in his eyes and removes his feet using a cheese wire, I thought it was called the audition but couldn't find it on IMDB

Yes, the bit in the toilet with the shotgun...?
It was good, but was over very quickly (unsurprisingly), and the camera didnt linger like it did for this beheading.

bowtie

Back on topic; the Reservoir Dogs ear thing was a good shout - only because the first time I saw it I was anticipating seeing the fella get torched...

Likewise, I remember being pretty shocked when Pyle paints the wall with his skull in Full Metal Jacket.
yes for both of those.

I didn't see the twist in Oldboy coming.

Overall a great movie and highly recommended.

Thanks for that, I had forgotten the title and been waiting for it to be mentioned again. It's referenced all over the net, don't know why IMDB ignores it.

The scene in Platoon where Junior gets repeatedly bayoneted whilst semi conscious (before psycho Tom Berenger blows them up with a bazooka, presumably as an act of "mercy&quotwink always stuck in my mind.

But if the original post was hinting at UNNECESSARY shocking moments that bottle thing in Pans Labarynth took the biscuit. Not a fan of censorship but that needed it.

Not shocking in a frightening way, but very shocked was I when Warden Norton discovered what had happened to Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption.

My jaw practically left a dent in the floor.

NOt in a frightening way but when the little boy in the 6th sense says " Nanny loves you " to his Mum. Maybe my upbringing makes that quite personal but it hit me quite hard.

The scene in Manon des Sources where Cesar understands that Jean de Florette was infact his son, Yves Montand acted the scene very well, it was a bit of a shock moment

Scene in Saving Private Ryan where the Jewish G.I is being slowly stabbed by a German Soldier, still makes me feel uneasy even after seeing it tons of times.
that for me is the most disturbing part of any film ever.... I always leave the room when that scene is on, also with the soilder sat crying at the bottom of the stairs so fixated with fear and he cannot go up and help his friend frown the whole setup of the scene is scary as hell.
I felt that way the first time I saw it.

Then I watched the Friends episodes with Adam Goldberg as Chandler's annoying super intense flatmate and the next time I watched Saving Private Ryan, I wanted to stab him too.

I'm struggling to remember the name of the film, but the one where Robin Willams is the doctor and his wife (the cute blonde from "Along came a Spider" IIRC) was killed by one of his mental patients.

You didn't even see it happen, and in what was essentially a feel-good film, utterly shocking...

...the director gives just enough time to really fall for her, pathos with Robin Williams' charcter I guess, and then, meaninglessly, she is just gone.

Absolutely ripped my heart out. Since that I am always highly suspicious of any characters in film or soap who seem too happy. Something bad is just around the corner.

Patch Adams that was it.

Won't watch it now. frown
That was the Fisher King IIRC.
Do you not mean Patch Adams?

Where Robin Williams is initially in a mental institution, then becomes a Doctor who eventually sets up an institute where laughter is used as a medicine (based on a true story) for a Hollywood offering it was rather shocking the way she was 'dealt with'

ETA: just seen you said it was Patch Adams! great feel good film-apart from the part you mention.

Obviously that "head falling out of wrecked hull" scene in the 1st Jaws... and notwithstanding the fact that any 30 sec search on the 'net will reveal Far more shocking Real film moments....

The other Jaws scene , i remember was where the Shark ate a big fish , with a massive head, the body dissapeared but this massive fish head just carried on swimming , it was'nt the 1st Jaws film, probably 2nd or 3rd..

I just remember it being very quite Fingg nauseating , at the time..
