VW Golf GTI 240

Golf V gets a power boost to 240bhp

If only all special editions had more bhp
If only all special editions had more bhp
The Golf VI isn’t far away but that doesn’t mean VW can’t just in a few special editions before number V disappears. But this isn’t your usual few extras and a paint job special edition, this one gets more power.

It’s the GTI 240 and there are no points for guessing what the name means – power of the Edition 30 has been boosted by 10bhp to 240. Unfortunately the rest is standard Golf but it does come with  new standard features as the bi-xenon headlamps, Pioneer touch screen navigation system as well as a new sound system.

The bad news is the car will only be available in Holland and just 300 are being produced. The GTI 240 is set to retail for €31 995, quite a bit cheaper than a GTI Edition 30 at €35 050.

my 2005 Gti was running approx 240bhp (done by Awesome GTi), less than £500 (and done by the first owner). Great mid range too - until the VW garage re-flashed the ECU!

I remember hearing that the black bumpers were supposed to be a 'hark' back to the original?

Who cares? its only available in Holland - You'd think after 30 years VW's marketing dept might realise they can sell them in more than just 1 market - Same thing happened with the Mk1 Golf GTI - initially it was left hand drive special order only until VW waved the white flag and made them a mainstream model - they also did the same thing with the Scirroco 16v

You pay extra for grey plastic, just like the M Sport beemers. Great eh?

Body coloured bumpers aren't really 'bumpers', just extended plastic bodywork that mark easily. Much like demise of running strips moaning. wink

I'm glad everyone else picked up on the bumpers!

Looks rubbish just having that big grey bit stuck on the back like that!

I'm waiting to see if anyone will say "Oh, it's just too much for FWD".

I bet it doesn't happen, even though the VXR gets sgged off for having 'too much power'.

Still kept that horrid strip of grey plastic then? Such a shame as it really cheapens the look of the car IMO.

Still - 240 bhp is nice!

I don't think it will get sgged off for 240bhp now that the Focus RS due out next year is going to be around 300bhp and FWD.
