Anyone seen the cameras on the A421 near Bletchley? Are these speeds cameras, they look like the 'Spec' cameras? They are painted yellow and there is 2 at each end of the the dual carridge way heading towards Oxford, Bicester, Buckingham. No signs around warning of speed cameras though, just wondered what they where.

I have seen these going up over the last couple of weeks, but have not seen them finished but my dad has seen them and also thinks they are specs.

It would not surprise me on that stretch of road as the second of the two entry points heading towards Buckingham is an accident hotspot and in all honesty pulling out of there is not easy..

The sign for that camera will be the one on the A421 as you come off the M1... questionable I know but my understanding is as long as there is a sign within x number of miles of the camera and on the road itself that’s all they need. bh if you have joined the road after that sign. Also they do have a few road safety signs up in the area.

MK's first static speed cameras on the grid system... I am sure a lot more will follow with what will undoubtedly be a very profitable site there. Will be interesting to see if they accident rate falls.

I called MK council and they have confirmed they are NOT speed cameras but they dont know what they are! They said a private company have erected them, but they are not sure what their purpose is. They also verbally told me to continue putting my foot down along that stretch! mmmm, sounds dodgey!

Are they bright yellow? The only other options are traffic master camera's or road tax or something.

Personally as much as it hurts me to say it, that bit of road could do with them.

Are you an MK lad?

Was also wondering about these at the weekend when driving past with the Mrs. They do look rather 'SPECS'-y, it must be said.

Well I have never seen anything painted yellow that is not for use in road traffic enforcement.

If they was going to put them anywhere in MK it was going to be there or on the H6 between Loughton and the industrial estate.. or the next bit up between the two Shenleys ( I had a nasty accident there in Jan)

Yeah I am from MK.

I think the area around Morrisons is very dangerous, people pull out of there without even looking sometimes. In the morning you get kids running across the main road too.

your right, its got a lot better now they have slowed the traffic with the entry by the skoda dealer... to be honest at every point where they let people cross a carriageway is madness.

They don't look like SPECS to me. They're on big chunky square girder type constructions, whereas all the SPECS cameras I've ever seen have had those blue ornate type posts. There's also a big satellite dish on each post - which I've never seen before...

Surely it's a little disingenuous of the Council to claim no knowledge of the purpose of these cameras. Surely the Council must be notified when these things are put up, as must the details/purpose of any associated cabling?

I have to say on a personal level it really sucks if those are SPECS cameras. My brother lives in Bletchley and that short stretch is quite fun.

Probably the same type of beasties as mentioned in the following thread.... http://tinyurl.com/a7vfwy
Seems to be a good few of these appearing all over the shop and no-one is owning up to knowing what they are....

The additional camera is to get the cars coming out of the turning next to it. There's a traffic light camera on the V6 also as part of a trial, I don't think they're prosecuting from that, not sure on the speed cameras though so behaving wink
