hi all. im paul, 24 from derbyshire. i just love my older (ish) cars. especially golfs. for me, classics, easy to work on, and this is what i enjoy doing with my spare time. much to my girlfriends annoyance! im also lucky enough to use my dads ed30 dsg. but i genuinely prefer mine

here is my first which i got when i was 21 (the car was older than me!). its a driver, with a 1.8 8v kjet which i installed. really learnt alot about cars with this conversion. thats priceless in my book

the shell was solid and the paint was great. eibach arb's, h+r suspension, full polybushed.
it handled so well, and felt so raw to drive, which is why i creid for a month when a transit crumpled my boot floor, making the car 1ft shorter!

so then i got this mk2 1.8 8v pb

the mk2 is so much more refined. and so easy to drive fast. it never let me down and i only put a new engine in @ 180k, but it didnt need it!!

new spec is-

2.0 rebuilt (me) agg 2.0 block
big valve head (35mm ex) matched manifolds
newman 268
lightened fly
milltek system

148lbft 138hp

full powerflex bushes
weitec -40mm fixed rate
h+r 23/25 arb's
g60 280 front brakes & full goodridge

all this makes a quick'ish (enough for a young lad, economical and sweet predictable handling b-road thrasher. hope you all approve, Paul

That's a shame about the mk1, it looks great. Still, the mk2 looks good too. Wouldn't mind something like that myself.

I really like the Mk1, shows what a lard-arse the current Golf is in comparison.

must say, very jealous. I have a golf MK3, and would love a MK1 or 2 GTi. Might have to buy myself one someday.

Slight hijack, but anyone know how much you can pick up a fairly good condition one for ??

Could do with a new offside headlamp, and you're missing the Hella sticker from one of the spotlamps! wink

Apart from that - Perfect. Best looking hot hatch ever imo

UPDATE!

so the car has a new heart!
2.0 16v ABF. digi 3.2 management, ecu and engine harness inc oe immobiliser + transponder. std runs 150 bhp@6k, 133 lbft@4.8k

with no catalyst, panel filter, gutted airbox, and my jetex exhaust, i should be seeing a healthy 160hp. needs putting on the same rr the 8v went on to get a realistic figure.

from this....

using this....

to this....

the sale of the old engine is funding a ported head and manifolds, by the chap who used to do the engine work for gti engineering. he also does work for radical! and also a live map from another gti engineering chap. should be good for a solid 180hp and good spread of torque.
but for now, im a happy chappy smile

went to my favorite private track and had a toy with my housemate in his 57'reg A4 2.0 tdi s line. blew him into the weeds! i also stripped out all the sound deadening, and im now sporting new weitec coilovers. they made a massive difference

Hope you like

I could even sell my mom for one of these in mint condition. Beautiful.
The only shame is the SEAT brand on intake frown

Really nice golfs mate, I'm at uni in Derby, and currently building my 16v golf. They look very tidy, should be good fun with the the valver engine in, especially with the good roads we have in the area!

Very nice Paul still see it nearly everyday. Usually when I get a car I notice loads of them about but there really aren't many mk2 about anymore.
