I ordered an item from Japan and it arrived here within 24 hours, so far it has been in the UK one week and I am awaiting a "customs charge letter" which still has not arrived despite been calculated 6days ago.

I just phoned and asked if I could simply go to the depot and pay the charges without the letter seeing as I know the amount, parcel number and have ID.....no, have to wait for the letter to be delivered as it contains a unique number, can they tell me over the phone? No....

I this actually legal ? UPS in the past have delivered the parcel and then left an invoice or taken payment on the door, why do Parcel Force hold your items and delay delivery whilst they send out bloody letters demanding payment before actually delivering? furious

Last time I ever use them, and will be advising the company I purchased the parts from to avoid them in future mad

Someone is telling you porkies. The last few bits I've bought from Japan have ended up in the hands of Parcel Farce.

You only need the letter if you are going to pay the charges and then wait for them to deliver to you. Otherwise you can just turn up at the depot with the tracking number, pay the charges and collect your parcel.

Interesting, I'll give the depot a call and see if I can sort it out.

Thanks!

I went and picked up a parcel from America and paid customs before the letter was processed last month. Online tracking said it was at the local depot, so I called and they said it was okay to collect and pay as soon as they get it, regardless of letter. Team Valley Gateshead depot.

Just go to your depot, I've done this a few times without a problem, although the staff at Liverpoll tend to be a bit more pragmatic and helpfull than most smile

It's against the law for a courier to delay delivery on the basis of customs charges.

Doesn't stop Parcel Force (and others) from doing it though as they know that thedebt will be a civil matter and the cost of recovery will exceed the amount due on most occasions.

I've e-mailed both Parcel Farce and HMCR yesterday to ask how I might pay the customs charge directly myself for the parcel I currently have inbound from Japan. Wonder what their responses will be? scratchchin

The Postal Services Act 2000 is the applicable statute: sections 83,84 and 104d being the relevant sections.

Thanks, I'll get reading and ready my position for when they reply and no doubt dodge the question.

Well went and collected it !

Chap at the depot said customer services generally have the IQ of a dead sperm so best to ignore them hehe

A bit pissed that I have been charged £13.50 by them for "working out the tax" to be paid furious

But at least the parcel is here and safe!

Yeah its bloody cheeky, I've had a mail back from ArselFarce and they tell me there is no means for me to pay the customs charge directly. Cunch of bunts. Waiting for a reply from HMRC.
