You could try emailing Rico as he lives at The Hub and get his thoughts.

You try the surrounding areas (i'm in Leighton Buzzard, Tropperizz is in Bletchley, GBBird is in Soulbury and my Sister lives in Newport Pagnall).

All areas are likely to have their positives and negatives!

Sounds like we need another MK meet!

Stony Stratford has to be worth a look?

Loads of pubs, generally good folk.

I'm in deanshanger a little futrther out and love living here.

I would avoid oldbrook to be honest- watch one of the police series and you will see it before long.

Shenley seems fine as does loughton

..but it isn't. WIthout getting into slanging matches over what estates are good and bad, I wouldn't live there for anything. It's not the worst place in MK, but it's not good enough. IMO and all that.
That would be my opinion as well - I say that having lived there for 2 years, then 2 years in Shenley Church End - the latter being my choice by a long way.
However, the new build bit closer to the city is OK(ish)

I'm a big fan of Stoney, proper old town feel about it - It's also where the term 'a Cock & Bull story' came from.

On the main street The Cock and The Bull pubs are opposite each other and in those olden days, stories and gossip would fly back and forth across the road getting more outrageous at every spin, think Chinese Whispers, hence - a cock and bull story being what it is.

Try Willen and/or Willen Park - 15 mins bike ride to CMK and very nice little estates.

Sorry chap- the cock and bull are on the same side, about 300 yards- if not less- apart.

Stony is a lovely place to be though- feels nothing like a city, lots of amenities, close to MK should you need it

Fair enough - the stories ran about 300 yards - if not less - up the road and back wink

I dont really wnat to stretch myself financially at the moment.... am i likely to get raped/stabbed/spat on?
I think it depends - I had 6 months living in Bradwell Common (the end bit of that name should tell you what it was like) and I never had any problems and that is a real dump. As said, have a drive around and you'll get a vibe.
whereas Bradwell Village is lovely.

Lived in the city all my life I can say all the estates have nice bits and bits to avoid. I live in Great Linford on half is fairly nice large open areas and a really good pub (If your under 6' though) but on the other side it can be quite nasty. best bet is to just look around the estates first.

I've lived in MK for around 20 years (in Furzton - nice area) and have just moved to a new build flat in Bletchley Park, I'm only paying £650 a month for a huge 2 bed apartment, unfurnished though. The trouble with all the apartments in Central Milton Keynes (The Hub, Theatre District & Campbell Park)is price, because of the location you're paying a huge premium on the flats (I've personally viewed about 10). The Hub in particular is a bit of a rip off, if you're facing out they get very hot (pretty much entirely glass) if you're facing into the square it gets noisy on account of the bars/restaurants. The first 3-4 floors are all social too, something to be aware of. Theatre District apartments have the former problem, noise and are also expensive. Campbell Park is expensive, but they're also 10 years old now, and it certainly feels it, they're a bit flimsy/poorly lit, plus the 2 I saw were two beds.

Like others have said, venture out of the city, plenty of nice places where you could rent a maisonette/flat, pretty much everywhere has great commuter links by Bus, or if you live in my particular bit, a stone's throw from Bletchley Station if you need to get into London/CMK.

Like others have said, avoid Oldbrook, Fishermead, Tinkers Bridge, Greenleys, Bradville (Badville), there's some older apartments in CMK too, avoid these too, filled with druggies/reprobates, all these aside though there are some really nice parts!

Black Horse? Their burgers are good! Though try the Swan Inn in MK Village, they have superb Japanese beer!

We were going to pop in for a cuppa last Saturday... Popped up for a tour around Bletchley Park. I'd forgotten how close you were to it.

I lived in mk for 3 years, I like it here. Used to live in new bradwell, now living in Woughton on the green here. THere is a good pub in this area. argreed with people saying here about MK.

Lot thing to do, but need money to do it (ski dome, water sport, gokarting, etc)

Avoid tinkerbridge!!, add that to your list.

Outside the city, across the A5 is quite nice, most area, some area in bletchly is okay but not brillant.
south west of MK is lovely. along up to north west is nice also but quite near to M1 motorway.

THe flats near campbell park look alright.

Bus service in my opinion are crap (i'm deaf, so my view might be different to you), best get a pushbike to ride on redways.

Another Leighton PHer, hello biggrin

Anyway back to topic...

Anywhere along the A5 is happily commutable without any issues, I've lived in Leighton for a while(shame that) and normally work in Milton Keynes - its an easy 30 minute run to the centre from here when the roads are busy.

There are a lot of nice places around the area. I commuted to MK from Flitwick in under 15 minutes (when I was in a hurry...) as the nice and convenient M1 junctions make it a breeze.

There are some VERY nice areas to live around here (of which leighton IMHO isnt one) but central MK I wouldnt choose to live in.
