Hi, my wife wants me to buy her an RX8 and I would like to know apart from the obvious difference in rated power are there any other differences between the two and how noticeable is the power difference?

The main differences are in cosmetic bits and bobs, bits of body kit and i think the alloys are different. The Power and torque delivery of the 231 version is right at the top of the rev band, the torque is spread a little more evenly in the 192 (but there's less of it). I wouldn't bother with the 192, unless the marginaly better fuel consumption is an issue, and the slightly cheaper insurance is what you want.

I read that the 231 was 6 speed and had xenons as standard. I really dont know how true this is though.

Correct, other version is 5speed only, revs to 7k instead of the 9 you get on the 231.
Easiest way to tell them apart is the headlamp washers, 231 has them, other one doesn't.

Loved the way the 231 handled but unless you revved it up to the 9k limit, well gutless IMO.

How much are you looking to spend. My 2005 231 with Mazda warranty + Borla + Carbon painted wheels (with a spare set) might be for sale at the right price.
