Getting an I-phone from three mobile

Not sure about under the table, but I thought there were plans for three to offer the iphone in the latter half of 2010
Thats been rumoured a lot ...But I'm not sure why someone would be wanting anything, let alone an iPhone, on 3. They're by far and away the worst of the networks.
One of the most expensive phones you get and you want to put it on the cheapest (and crapiest) network there is? Doesn't make sense I am afraid.
3 are cheap for a reason and they have never been particularly good on the data side, so I would suggest that you should look for a deal on one of the others - Orange, O2 and Vodafone. Tesco mobile are currently the cheapest for the iPhone in the UK, though its still expensive (and ultimately its still O2).

A lot of hate for three here, but I have been with them for many years and must admit I have never had any probs at all, great coverage, great service, whenever I have had a prob they bend over backwards to resolve it, and a price that no one can beat, that’s why I always renew with them every time, the only reason I am thinking of going elsewhere now is the I-Phone
The wife tried 3 once - never again. Utterly appalling coverage, poor call quality (remembering that they fall back to O2 if their coverage is poor - even then, it was rubbish). Poor handset choice and even when you did get a decent phone, they nobbled it with a load of branding and configuration that you cannot stop. One cracking example was a cheaper Nokia phone (which was a good phone in its day) that locked the configuration so that the network was forced to stay up all of the time - rather than dropping it when you didnt need it. As a result, it dropped the battery from 2-3 days with reasonable calls to less than a day. Could you change it? Nah, not on your nelly...
Oh, and the call centres are utterly awful. A raging example of how NOT TO run a call centre and why you shouldn't outsource everything to India. Couldn't wait to get away from them and will never ever go back. Everyone else I know who has tried them walked away as soon as they can, some even paying to get out of contracts. The only redeeming thing they do is the pay as you go data dongle thing. Its the cheapest on the market and simple to use, plus they don't sting you for international roaming if you can get on a 3 partner network somewhere - which isn't everywhere BTW. Now thats a good deal and worth doing.
Sorry - bitter and painful experience which is in line with many other people. If you have had a good experience then great, they are cheap as chips. But I would look at Android phones though - much cheaper and its going to be easier to get them onto the 3 network. Though if you want an iPhone, its going to cost you, which ever way you look at it. Play.com does second hand / refurbished / new unlocked phones and they come with a money back thingy - so might be worth looking there.

Great coverage for voice calls, but what about data? which every single feature of the iphone, bar making a phone call, will use.off_again said:

That echoes mine (and a colleagues) experiences with the 3 call centers. They are truly diabolical. I work for one of the larger Indian IT Outsourcing companies, and chatting to a couple of my colleagues from over there, and even they've complained about the 3 customer services.Sorry - bitter and painful experience which is in line with many other people. 3 dongle too - no real problems with it, it always gets a signal when I need one. Software running it is a bit s
t I often have to reboot my laptop for it to connect, but not really an issue for the amount of times I use it.
Call Centre seemed ok too, especially when I told them I was not renewing my dongle contract because I hardly use it, got put through to a bloke in Scotland who cut me a good deal so I stayed.
iPhone though? They are good - nice gimmiky thing, useful to have an iPod built in, been using mine a month or so and novelty has worn off already. It's too big, battery is pants.

I get three days from a GS.

My 3 dongle was quite possibly the worst piece of kit I've ever had the displeasure of owning.

The usage meter on the devices software was just a work of fantasy. The on-line usage meter was equally useless. I only found this out when we well and truly breached the monthly allowance, despite both on-line and on-device usage meters saying we were within our limits.
Call center were completely and utterly uselss on that, and the subsequent problems experienced with reliability of the dongle. It would regularly disconnect, or totally fail. It got sent back for repair several times, with comments of "No fault found" or "Fault repaired". I even demonstrated its failure in-store. They never fixed it. Bloody irritating that I had it on a contract, so basically had to buy myself out of the remainding period.
You'll have sob stories on all the networks for one reason or other, but 3 are consistently the worst.

I had real worries about going over the limit, a chat with the call centre put a hard limit on it so it will disconnect and not reconnect until the following month.Like you say though, each to their own.

I have been with 3 for at least 6 years now and have never had a problem with coverage anywhere in Europe. Data works fine to. I recently re-newed my contract with them and got an unlimited everything anytime deal with them for £25 a month plus free Spotify.
They sent me the latest HTC phone which I did not want so sold that on E-bay, collected all my old phones up from around the house and sold them on Mazuma mobile.
Bought myself an unlocked iPhone3GS which works perfect on the 3 network.
