Did I imagine it or is/was there a website that told you when (and where) Tornados and Jaguars and suchlike were scheduled to fly through the lake district?

Exercises involving low flying, as well as night low level training, are promulgated both on the MOD site as well as in both Military and Civil NOTAMS.

Day to day use of the UKLFS (UK Low Flying System) for fixed wing a/c may occur any time from half an hour after the end of Morning Civil Twilight to half an hour before the start of Evening Civil Twilight. The system works by units 'booking in' to each area of the LFS (Low Flying System) with an entry and exit time and is coordinated by the Low Flying Cell at LATCC(Mil) West Drayton (so as to ensure there is no overload of each LFA (Low Flying Area). Day to day training is not promulgated.

Enjoyed a great trip up there last week and not a bad overall 'spot'.

1 x Spitfire (pretty sure) down the length of Windermere

1 x Jaguar completely sideways over our heads in Langdale

1 x Chinook about 100ft above Windermere - even did a circle round the island for a pose and then flew off

Exellent !

There are no RAF Jaguars flying anymore (well not in UK skies) so it was something else.

I didn't know that. It certainly looked like a Jag but I couldn't see it's wings with them pointing downwards directly above our heads. Don't think it was a Tornado due to the rear fin not being big enough.

Wonder what it was..

Difficult to see but I think regular camouflage (green/brown). Again, not overly sure.

Looked and sounded good though. hehe

If it was camo then it was foreign, as the RAF don't fly anything camo anymore. All the remaining Tonka's and Puffer Jets plus the Tiffie's are in all-grey schemes nowadays.
