I'm refitting a small bathroom and need a length of worktop just 670mm wide on which to mount one of them oh-so-trendy countertop sinks. Trying to avoid buying a full length just for this short section, not only would it be a waste of money but to bring a 2 metre+ length of worktop home means having to get my hands on a van!

Does anyone know of anywhere around Doncaster/Selby/York/Hull where I might find such an offcut? I thought there'd be shedloads of the things on eBay but it appears not; I'm not even that arsed about colour, it's going in a bathroom with cream walls, dark grey/black floor and white fittings so white, cream, dark grey or black are all good.

If anyone's got summat suitable in their shed I'm sure a swap for beer can be arranged! wink

Ta,
Jonny biggrin

Try your local yahoo.co.uk freecycle group.

Worktop offcuts seem to come up quite often down here on freecycle.

Normally my local B&Q has off cuts beside the big saw in a rack that people didnt need.
Noticed this in a few of the stores if you have one near.

Last time I tried to join the local Freecycle group (on Yahoo) it took a fortnight for 'em to tell me that my application had been rejected, with no reason given! Twunts!

Tried eBay, found sod all of any use in the local area. frown

Haven't seen the offcuts in B&Q before, will have a gander next time I'm passing an orange emporium!

Useless I know, but there's a place selling mostly offcuts near me...

So back to basics. Who produces worktop offcuts? People who fit kitchens. So ring up a few people who fit kitchens and ask smile

That did occur to me, just have a sneaking suspicion that yer average kitchen fitter won't be overly chuffed at me ringing up essentially on the scrounge! wink although it's a handy if-all-else-fails option biggrin

I've got a feck off length (2.5m ish) of black worktop in my garage that's destined for the tip.

Free to a good home.

In Leeds if that's any good to you?

Give Jonny the bit he needs and drop the rest round to me would you? Tomorrow afternoon between 3:00 and 3:15 because I'm having my hair cut before and my nap afterward. Actually, if you wouldn't mind fitting it alongside the workbench in my garage that'd be great but close the garage door while you're fitting it otherwise the noise will wake me.

I love PH. Full of helpful people.

try the local Howdens , they will have offcuts and damaged lenghts for not a lot .

I had the same problem and ended up paying a tenner for a damaged length , they even lent me a saw and let me cut it down there .

I've sat a trendy sink on half an Ikea tabletop - think it was less than a tenner.
Or freecycle. But be prepared for seriously strange people.

A friend of mine was saying the other week that he has a "spare" granite worktop if thats of use to you?

(he was saying that 4 weeks ago so it *could* have been dumped)

Got an offcut section of Black Gloss Worktop in the loft which, (from memory), is exactly the size you are looking for, or possibly a few mm bigger... If you're ever about as far south as you can get in the country, before falling in the water, it's yours! thumbup

Dave_s13, Goochie and GTS Dave, ta for all your offers!

Think I'll give granite a miss, much as I'd like to have my sink standing on real granite I suspect it'd take something a bit heavier-duty than my wee angle grinder to cut the stuff to size! And sadly a trip to the south coast would be a touch impratical wink

Dave_s13, I may well take you up on your kind offer if nothing comes up locally - but will have to lay my hands on a van to shift it. (BTW, if I end up taking your worktop, let me know beforehand what your preferred beer is biggrin )
