I'm loving this thread.You can always shop around, CTB are the market leader so they don't have to try so hard try www.ScrapCarComparison.co.uk and see what they will offer or www.nationalscrapcar.co.uk both will give you a proper quote. For cars that have an MOT of 6 months or more you are always better selling on Gumtree first. Hope this helps.

I think 150 quid is a disgrace offer. But that not what upset me .. the amount of spam they sent under a few mins and states at the bottom of the email . to email them and delete the email you would think this would be enough for them to stop the spam of them sending quote. sadly not got to the point of forwarding them to my spam folder as it hit over 200 under an hour. this company is a joke and a scam I wouldn't even trust them. I would suggests anyone willing to scrap there car go and shop around. Don't use take Car take back.com unless its a dead brick

(Sorry to resurrect, adding my 2p for the benefit of future Google adventurers)
Used CTB just before Christmas. Shopped around first and asked a local scrapyard if they could beat the quote I got. They couldn't (by some £55), and the bloke on the phone gave me a quite convincing "you'll never get the quote mate, they'll barter you down, best going to us" line.
Went with CTB anyway and all good. Didn't even need to be in, cheque, V5C and tax disc through the letter box (as requested) when I got back and car gone. Certificate of destruction a day or so later. No haggling, no nonsense, got the quote I was given originally.
Obviously hoping I won't need to scrap another car but if I do this is a sensationally easy way of doing it.

I recently worked as a recovery driver for a breakers yard that was contracted to car take back and that was an experience.
It was owned and run by an Asian guy who was the most racist person I had ever met, he would regularly say "us Asians are the most trustworthy people around, you Welsh wouldn't think twice about stealing from me", whilst using an English name on the phone because " nobody would trust me if they knew I was Asian".
We would receive the details of a car that would need collecting from ctb via email and the price would have been negotiated by ctb so thats what the customer would expect to receive, wrong. We were expected to ring the customer up and try to knock them down based on the condition of their car, they were selling them for scrap yet my boss would try to knock money off for any dents or scratches.
Very rarely would we pay the price offered on the website sometimes we would arrange to collect the car anytime of the day ( so the customer would have to wait in between 9 and 6) and when I arrived I would have to phone the boss and list every single thing wrong with the car and he would tell me how much to write the cheque out for sometimes he would tell them it's not worth anything at all and we would do them a massive favour and take it free of charge, most people felt they would have to take another day off work so most would accept the lower offers.
When the car was taken back to the yard the boss would inspect it and as long as it was a runner with some mot it would get sent to his brothers car sales, polished up a bit and then be put on the forecourt for a massive profit.
His attitude was "as long as it didn't break down in the first 3 months as to fulfil the sale of goods act he didn't care if it broke down after that, and if it broke down within the 3 months he wouldn't fix a major problem he would simply swap it for another car that was sold for scrap "
