Lamborghini Murcielago Bows Out After 4099 Cars
The final Murcielago rolls off the production line - Sant'Agata celebrates with a V12 parade
The final Lamborghini Murcielago has rolled out of the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory, after a production run that lasted almost a decade and 4099 cars.
The last Murcielago, which marked the end of a run that started in 2001, actually shuffled off the assembly line on 11 May this year, but Lamborghini officially marked the departure of the Murcielago last Friday with a celebratory exhibition Lamborghini's most famous V12s.
The exhibition at the factory was then followed by a symbolic "last ride" out of the gate of the Lamborghini factory and a parade in Sant'Agata Bolognese with the likes of the 350 GT, the Miura, the Countach and the Diablo escorting Murciélago SV of the Lamborghini museum around the town.
"For almost a decade, the Murciélago was the icon of the Lamborghini brand, and it was enormously successful in the process," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini. "The Murciélago embodies the pure, unadulterated values of our brand. It is truly extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian.
"This already makes it one of the legends of the sports car world. But the Lamborghini story continues. In 2011, we will take a huge step into the future with the successor to the Murciélago - with the most innovative technology and, once again, truly stunning design."
The bewinged SV cuts a fine form and was a great way for the model to bow out but I think 10years was a bit long for a model run these days.
It doesn't look dated but I think it soon will once we get used to the look of it's replacement.
Loved the Diablo although yes it really is looking a dated now, the pure unadulterated original and the late 6.0VT looking the best IMO with the SV and open headlight models actually looking more dated than the original.
The Countach is still my absolute favourite Lamborghini, child of the 80's and the spark was reignited this weekend by watching the Cannonball run on the TV.
The 5000 Quattrovalvole is my favourite absolute classic.
No doubt a 'better' car all-round but missing a small degree of 'Lamboness'
I drove a Murch round Thruxton, and was surprised how well it handled, I'd kind of assumed it would be a bit of a monster but it was great. Then again, I'm not exactly a track-day regular...

They ruined the look of the original Diablo but didn't seem too bad on the 6.0 VT.
I also agree with Fire99, The Murcielago (Except the SV) is not as extreme as the Diablo and Countach before it almost bland in comparison.
Very much looking forward to it's successor.
with more then 700hp
here a good video

Our preview man said that the power would come from a 6.5-liter V12 with 700 horsepower. Not to mention a redline of 8250. That motor would be connected to a seven-speed single clutch transmission with two modes and 50 millisecond shifts. All that will combine for a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a 217 mph top speed.
Keeping the car on the road will be a carbon monoque chassis and a Formula One style suspension on the rear. The new Lamborghini will be 229kg lighter and 70% more rigid. Oh, and we forgot that it’s all-wheel drive too.
The man said that the product would be shown at the Geneva Motor Show next spring and that those famous scissor doors will remain. While we would love to believe all of this, one never knows. If it’s truth or not, it sure does sound good
It was a big job to follow the Diablo 6.0, much the same as it was when the Diablo replaced the Countach. I think they did a fantastic job with the Diablo 6.0 and steered clear of sticking things onto the final model like the Countach Anniversary. The car still looks absolutely stunning IMO. The same can be said of the Murcielago. Even though a few were subjected to some of the hideous re-trim/body-kit options that were far more prevalent in the 2000's, it still came through like a champ. The only after-market Murci I really like is the BF Performance 660 (minus the pig snout exhaust tip). Absolutely stunning. Link
Sad to see it go but very glad they made it. The S.V is a very fine send-off and the replacement should be spectacular.
