In case you’ve missed the big news of the week, we’ve had a go in Jaguar’s new electric GT prototype courtesy of some frozen lakes in Sweden, ahead of the car’s expected launch at the end of the year. It’s a major milestone for the manufacturer, which has been quietly working on its latest EV while the rest of the world has been arguing over some dancers in an advert. With a production version nearing completion, we sent Sam to the Arctic Circle to get a feel for the 1,000hp GT in an environment where, let’s be honest, you’re unlikely to see one when sales eventually kick off. So it only seemed fitting to hand the mic over to Sam for today’s episode of The Gassing Station podcast to provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the eclectic cat is shaping up and his first impressions.
Don’t worry, we managed to squeeze in some time for a buying challenge, albeit one with a slight twist. Whereas we’d normally find a car for a PHer in need of some inspiration, stedaley simply wants to know how you’d divide up a budget of £50,000 across three cars. Sam, still thawing out from his time in Sweden, came in strong with this limited edition Porsche Cayman S Sport for £29,995, this low-mile Abarth 595 for £8,995 and, for just £14,995, this exceptional Bentley Turbo R with small forest’s worth of wood inside. My picks weren’t quite as sophisticated, starting with this immaculate Subaru Impreza WRX STI for £14,895, while this TVR Tamora ticks the sports car box for £26,495. And finally, given the recent news, I’ve gone for this X350 Jaguar XJR for just £10,995. You’re going to want to chip in to this one, so have a dig through the classifieds and auctions and head into the topic here.
No final topic for this week, as Sam had to head off to drive the new Mk8.5 VW Golf GTI Clubsport. But there’s plenty to sink your teeth into, including his review and video, but give the pod a listen first, yeah?
