Despite what some people may tell you, there are areas for improvement in the
Ford Focus RS
. While we won't delve into those right now, a shortage of front end bite and precision has never been a criticism levelled at the RS. Indeed, the tenacity of its front end and its neutral balance under power are two of its more endearing traits.
Focus RS was all white - now it should be better!
That hasn't stopped Ford tweaking though, which means you can now buy a Focus RS with an Option Pack that brings with it a Quaife mechanical limited-slip diff for the front axle. Yes, rather like the optional performance pack on an
AMG A45
The Option Pack is seemingly only available in Nitrous Blue, the press release speaking of "unique styling... the Focus RS signature Nitrous Blue body colour with striking black exterior details, and a two-tone seat execution."
The differential is of most interest though, presumably there to add even more confidence and traction at the front end. Moreover, while not an issue on the road, the RS is prone to a little more understeer than you might like on track; this should be improved by the locking diff. Ford says the LSD "seamlessly integrates" with the other Focus RS technologies. So yes, Drift Mode remains.
Sounds like it might be blue or blue however
New European Ford Performance Director Leo Roeks naturally has plenty to say on the Option Pack: "For hardcore driving enthusiasts, the additional mechanical grip offered by the Quaife LSD will make it even easier to carry speed through a corner on the track, and maximise acceleration on the way out. The new setup also delivers greater mechanical stability and control when braking hard". Let's just hope the
tyres last long enough
to make the most of it...
Ford UK hasn't yet detailed the price and availability of the RS Option Pack, though you would have to assume it isn't far off. Power and torque remain unchanged over the standard car. More news as we have it!
