PH Rumour Mill

Sources say, insiders suggest, and leaks reveal. What do they actually tell us though? Well, more often than not it's click-generating page-filler, summoned into existence by a lonely keyboard-basher with nothing better to do. Sometimes though, they do reveal a grain of truth, revelatory quote or genuine insight worthy of illumination.

To that end, we've erected the PH Rumour Mill: custom-built to reduce your automotive trawling - a one-stop shop for the industry's superlative (and typically speculative) new car chatter.

Discuss it in the forums, share it with your mates, but whatever you do, take it with a gritting lorry's worth of salt.

Megane R.S to be electrified
No, not the one unveiled at Geneva just last week - but the Megane R.S after that. Hardly a blinding revelation given the gathering pace of electrification; more interestingly, there's also confirmation from Renault Sport boss Patrice Ratti that we should see a Megane Trophy by the end of 2018. So one to look forward to at least.

Aventador Performante spied testing?
Yes, apparently new variants of Lamborghini's flagship coupe and roadster are on the way. Spy shots showing an Aventador with mid-mounted, Huracan Performante style exhausts give some credence to the claim. But with no other details whatsoever, any discussion of specs would be pure... speculation. We're in town all week.

M2 CSL on the way
BMW is preparing to send off the current generation of M2 in style with its first CSL designation since 2004. That's according to Autocar, who say the car will use a 400hp version of the engine found in the M3 and M4, with power sent to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox. With M3 CSLs still commanding some serious money in the classifieds this is one to keep an eye on if you're to stand a chance of getting on the waiting list. Should there ever be one, of course.

Future Astons could get inline-six
With even the V8 DB11 falling foul of future emissions regs, it's hypothesized that Aston Martin's engine sharing arrangement with AMG could see the British marque using inline-six engines from the German supplier. This itself is based on the "understanding" that Mercedes will soon debut a new 3.0-litre inline-six in the upcoming CLS 53 AMG. DB11 Vehicle Line Director Paul Barritt is quoted as saying, "It's a really interesting engine that one. It has plenty of potential." And on that piece of rumorception, we'll call it a day.

Any other rumours to discuss? Share them below and we'll apply the fingerprint dust and UV light in the next round.

I mentioned the Aventador last month. A friend has a deposit down on one. His Huracan Performante arrives in December and it seems to be invite only on the Aventador Performante.

So given there is already an Aventador SV, what will the difference be between the SV and Performante?

Active aero tech lifted from the Huracan Performante of course...amongst other tweaks.
