The exclusivity of Audi’s halo RS models could be at risk, after it was reported the company is planning a strategy change.
Audi subsidiary, Quattro GmBH, manufactures low volume cars like the R8, the RS models and is responsible for the S Line range.
Website World Car Fans reports on an interview by German mag Auto Motor und Sport with Werner Frowein, Director of Quattro GmbH, where he reveals increases in production will take place next year despite the philosophy of always producing cars just under demand.
However it is also reported that Quattro GmbH will scrap the idea of producing RS models in the last two year’s of a vehicle's six year life cycle, instead changing the policy to RS models coming out after the first two years.
Production of the R8 is already said to have been increased to maximum capacity of 27 additional units a day, giving a total production of 5,500, and Quattro GmbH is believed to be planning 5000 RS6's, a final 1000 RS4's, and the addition of the 12-cylinder diesel Q7.
On top of this expect to see the TT-RS arriving soon and possibly even the RS5, which could also mean an end to Audi’s policy of just one RS model at a time.
