In these days of cramming in work at every opportunity, Jaguar have come up with a concept car that encourages stressed out business types to relax and take a breather.
The new Concept 8 is built on the long wheelbase version of the XJ saloon and comes complete with a full length glass roof allowing you to marvel at the moonlight whilst supping a glass of Guinness and nibbling at a Cornish pastie.
Again, going against the grain Jaguar haven't filled the interior with gadgets. There are no laptops built into the lumbar support, no satellite links in the headrests and no plasma screens hanging around the chauffeur's neck. The interior is simply filled with fine materials. Deep carpets, chilled champagne (or
), Waterford Crystal, subtle LED lighting and even essential oils let you sit back and relax - an activity that's rapidly going out of fashion. They did manage to squeeze in a LCD DVD system with 14 speakers and an 860W amplifier for those moments of when relaxation turns to boredom.
"The Concept Eight is not about cramming in half an hour's work on the way to and from the airport
," said Julian Thomson, Chief of Advanced Design, Jaguar Cars. "It is a car that exudes British good taste and calmness. It has a very relaxed but contemporary feel about it. Jaguar is not an 'all work and no play' company and the Concept Eight reflects that. When you ride in it you should get the same feeling of well-being that you would enjoy if you stayed in a boutique hotel
."
Up front, ensuring sufficient wafting capability is a supercharged 4.2 litre V8 pumping out a glorious 390bhp.
