They said Daniel Ricciardo is an honorary 'Murican because he’s so fond of the USA – his last holiday there was well documented on social media to say the least. The smiliest man in Formula 1 was therefore a natural choice for Red Bull Racing’s latest promotional video, which follows the 29-year-old Aussie - who, by the way, will depart the team after this season - road trippin’ from San Francisco to Las Vegas in an F1 car.
What’s this for, you ask? It’s probably a bid to get our cousins from across the pond excited about the sport, particularly as its owner, Liberty Media, is trying to secure a second American race on the calendar in Miami. The American market is, compared to Europe, relatively untapped for F1, so engaging fans there has become a key focus of the latest marketing campaigns.
In this USA road trip video, Ricciardo almost always has the road to himself (they even closed the Golden Gate Bridge for him), with only a leisurely driven motorhome and a handful of cars, including a an Aston Martin DB11 (hashtag product placement), to contend with.
As far as promo videos go, this one’s a good'n. It features a Formula 1 car from the pre-hybrid turbo era with a high-revving atmospheric V8 for starters. So grab that brew and turn your speakers up to enjoy the sights and sounds of a Red Bull racer blasting through city tunnels, skipping over the bumps of San Fran and drifting under the bright lights of Sin City…
