Road casualties in Great Britain are down by 5% for the year ending September 2007, according to new Department of Transport statistics.
The government has this week published road casualty statistics for the third and second quarters of 2007, which relate to accidents reported to police.
The news will only give more ammunition to road safety campaigners who argue that scameras are making our roads safer.
The government claims provisional estimates show total casualties were down 4% compared with the previous 12 months, while the number killed or seriously injured dropped 2% in the same period.
