Hertfordshire Constabulary have decided to fight crime with new signs stating the obvious. Signs such as “Caution! Water on road during rain” and “All fuel must be paid for” have been springing up around the county.
The Plain English Campaign commented that the signs were funny but an insult to people’s intelligence, “it’s talking in a vacuum. ‘Do not commit crime’ is hardly a deterrent to a criminal.” The Herts Police responded “If stating the obvious has any impact on crime at all, we will do it.”
“Slow down for pies” signs rumoured to have been added by PH are strongly denied.
