three run-out editions
, time really is ticking away for the current Defender. But Land Rover seems determined to make sure that its most iconic product gets a suitably grand send-off. And while we fully admit that this video could be politely described as being 'a bit corporate', it's certainly worth not quite three minutes of your time.
We'll let them blow their own trumpet
To celebrate the Defender's long life, the company assembled a bunch of historic Landies - several of which predate the coil-sprung Defender we're actually waving off - and took them to Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey, where Maurice Wilks first sketched the original 1948 Land Rover in the sand. And then done it on a far bigger scale.
The finished video is very slick - it certainly looks like it took considerably longer to shoot than the three hours that creating the image reportedly took, but it's a great tribute to an iconic piece of design. We also found it slightly reminscent of this classic bit of 1970s Leyland-produced cheese. You can practically feel those cars rusting as you watch, can't you...
