While AMG has diversified significantly in recent years, bringing to market small performance SUVs, large performance SUVs and whatever the GLE Coupe is, its reputation was built on big saloons with big V8s. Very good they are at it too, the latest
E63 4Matic +
emphatically proving that AMG can certainly do its thing in this downsized fast car world.
Very, very subtle as 612hp goes...
And in the best AMG tradition, there is also an estate on the way. The E63 wagon was announced
earlier this year
, will be with customers in September and is now on sale: it costs £81,130 for the 571hp 'base' car and £90,490 for the hell raising 612hp E63 S. For those playing super estate Top Trumps, an Audi RS6 wades in with either the
560hp version
at £81,430 or £88,345 for the
605hp Performance flagship
. Because if your V8 mega wagon doesn't have 600hp, is it really that mega at all?
In addition to those two, UK buyers can opt for an Edition 1 estate. Sitting down? Adding 20-inch wheels, matt grey paint, the AMG Night Package and some interior carbon amongst other trinkets, it costs £108,780. Crikey.
Sit here, go fast, smile a lot
Options for the E63 include ceramic brakes (£6,995), a sports exhaust (£1,000) and a Premium package; standard on the Edition 1, it costs £2,595 and comprises a Burmester stereo, keyless go, a panoramic roof and intelligent LED lights.
One final thing, too. The E63 S estate definitely, definitely does come with the saloon's Drift mode. So that's a 612hp AMG estate with the possibility of sending power to just the rear wheels. First drive coming as soon as a key becomes available!
