Peugeot 106, Land Rover Discovery Gen 1, Mitsubishi L200 Warrior (a proper handful in the wet, really), Nissan Navara, Mazda MX-5 NB 1.8is, Subaru Impreza WRX, VW Golf GTI Edition 30, Aston Martin V8 Vantage 4.3
Land Rover Freelander SD4, 1984 911 Carrera, Caterham 7 Academy Racer (soon to become Roadsport spec)
"I've been toying with something Italian and mid-engined for a while now. I'm also a sucker for American muscle cars so the new Mustang is definitely on my radar, though I will wait until I can get something with a snake badge."
Renault Clio Williams
"I know it's becoming a bit of a feature staple to throw a classic hot hatch in at the end to mop up the rest of the budget, but this is my first choice. No garage is complete without a hot hatch and in my opinion this is one of the best. I'll admit it was a toss up between this and a V6; the Williams won out as it is slightly less likely to kill me."
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition
Cost: £13,495
Balance: £80,755
Why I chose it: "How could I do a fantasy garage without at least one road going rally car? I may be showing my age slightly but when I was young these were dominating the WRC, with Tommi right at the top of his game. Since then I've been desperate to own one, in red, with the stickers. If I stumbled across a standard one when I had the spare cash I would buy it with no hesitations. But the longer I wait the more are getting messed with which is a shame."
Lotus Exige GT3
"Having just completed the Caterham Academy I've really got the racing bug. I'm not very good, but I've got the bug. This looks like an awesome way to step up to 'proper' racing cars as it's eligible for quite a few championships. And as if that's not enough the vendor has photographed it with a Harrier Jump Jet. As far as ways to make an already cool car cooler this vendor has nailed it."
Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI 4x4
Cost: £13,995
Balance: £16,765
Why I chose it: "My practical choice. Go anywhere, throw the dog in the back and so on. This will be the car that has to deal with all life can throw at it. It's hard wearing and unpretentious. I've never driven one but contemporary road tests said it was also a good steer and this one's a manual. Hopefully that will make for a win-win situation, so long as I can persuade the other half that it's OK to arrive in a Skoda."
Mini Cooper S JCW GP
"The ultimate of R53 Minis; do I need any more of a reason? OK then. I nearly bought one a couple of years ago and still want one. I love the uncompromising nature of cars like these, a GT3 for the hot hatch lover. I nearly put an R26.R in place of this but I've already got my favourite Renault on this list and they are still a load more money. Feel free to say how stupid this decision is..."
Mazda MX5 1.8i NB
Cost: £3,000
Balance: £770
Why I chose it: "I need a convertible, and a motoring cliche (it is PistonHeads after all). This is close to the one I used to own, and it really did answer every question I asked of it. I loved it, easily the most fun I've had on the public roads and I can't think of a good reason not to have one back in my life again. This looks like it's in reasonable condition too.
"With the last £770, fuel would probably be useful but it would more likely go on some track time in my new race car. It would be embarrassing to be at the back of the field in that too."
