PTP are continuing to expand their range of products for K series engined
cars. Their latest offerings are a new lightweight flywheel and close ratio
gearbox.
The new PTP ultra-lightweight flywheel represents a saving of some 30% in
weight compared to the standard MG / Rover item. Fitting the PTP version lowers
the reciprocating weight of the motor, increasing throttle response. In
addition, tighter machining tolerances should mean that the PTP flywheel offers a greater degree of balance than the original, improving the balance characteristics of the engine, which increases
smoothness, especially at higher rpm.
Providing a lower gearing than standard, the new close-ratio gearbox will fit any transverse mounted K-series engine. It uses the following ratios:
1st 2.923, 2nd 1.75, 3rd 1.307, 4th 1.033 and 5th 0.848. The final drive is
4.2:1
These new ratios optimise the gear spacing and should make the car that bit
livelier to drive. Uprated engines should benefit from it particularly, rather
than struggling against high, economy driven gearing.
Price for the flywheel is £225.00 plus VAT, whilst the close-ratio sports
gearbox is available as a new unit priced at £1195 plus VAT.
