McLaren 720S
arguably stole the Geneva show as the most significant and talked about debut, at least in the PH world. The performance figures certainly raise the threshold for cars of this type but the biggest talking point in the 200-odd comment thread has to be the looks. And not everyone seems entirely sold on them.
It's a complex looking car for sure and perhaps not one with that instant, instinctive 'phwoar' factor of some rivals. That's a very McLaren approach though, the complexity of the styling reflective of the technical intrigue of the way cooling and aero have been incorporated. If you're still not sure then here, possibly, is the answer, courtesy of McLaren's MSO department.
Amazing what a difference a lick of paint and some bronze coloured wheels make, eh?
Some lick of paint too - a new shade called Nerello Red covers the front and upper surfaces (there's visible carbon on the front boot lid too) before fading into the existing Volcano Red along the sides and rear. That's just the start though, various gloss carbon fibre external parts from the MSO range also fitted and comprising the rear deck, service cover, 'aero bridge' and various other parts inside and out. There's also a lot of Alcantara, carbon and contrast stitching for the interior.
And it comes at some cost, the Velocity package costing a total of £335,000 as an MSO commission - up from the £208,600 base price of a standard 720S. Other themed MSO packages under the descriptions GT, Pacific, Track and Stealth have also been shown or, of course, you can create your own bespoke packages depending on how far your imagination and wallet can take you.
