Such is the pace of development at McLaren, it can be easy to forget what achievements came before the latest circuit-crushing supercar. Right now the focus is on Elva, Speedtail and 620R, the previous models shunned out of the limelight almost as soon as they're in it. They come thick and fast out of Woking...
Remember the Senna? Course you do; we're being silly now. But since its reveal at the start of last year, there's been the introduction of a Super Veloce Jota Lamborghini, the Manthey upgrade for the GT2 RS and a Mercedes GT that's done 7:04 at the 'ring. The ludicrously fast track car club has been growing at quite a rate.
However, there's ludicrously fast, and then there's Senna fast, as this sportauto video proves. It's the same Hockenheim layout the German mag has used for the Pista, GT2 RS MR, Aventador SVJ and so on, with Christian Gebhardt driving once more; using a set of Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R MC2s, the Senna lapped the 2.8-mile track in... well, you'll have to find out in the video. But it's seconds ahead of the rest, not tenths, surely vindicating McLaren's billing for this as the ultimate track car. It hopefully won't spoil the suspense too much to learn that the Senna was nine seconds faster than a Huracan Evo around this lap, for some sense of its pace
It makes for some viewing, too, the McLaren unerringly stable under braking and in the quick stuff, then outrageously accelerative when the straight bits arrive. That you can view all this through the Senna's uniquely airy cockpit makes it all the more engrossing to watch. Set aside a couple of minutes and prepare to be amazed...
