Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster - Frankfurt 2017

If you can remember as far back as January - 2017 has been rather a busy year - you may recall that the Lamborghini Aventador S was highly praised on PH. More precise, more powerful and simply more enjoyable than the standard Aventador, it showed there was certainly still life in the big Lambo yet.

Now there's a Roadster, the Aventador S dropping its top (or rather, disassembling and storing it in the front) ahead of being shown to the world at Frankfurt next week. Doesn't it look spectacular? Lamborghinis never want for drama, but the combination of a new colour - Blu Aegir - the white leather and those very fancy S wheels give this Roadster incredible presence. When you consider that the Aventador was first seen half a dozen years ago, that's no mean feat.

Unsurprisingly much of what made the Aventador S Coupe so good has been carried over to the Roadster. The 6.5-litre V12 makes 740hp at 8,400rpm, a rather wonderful set of numbers to bring together in 2017. Torque is identical to the coupe too (509lb ft at 5,500rpm), meaning the Aventador S Roadster is capable of 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds (a tenth behind the hardtop) and 217mph, which is 2mph slower. Shame. It weighs 50kg more than the Coupe, or 1,575kg dry.

Bring the noise!
Bring the noise!
"Combining the technologies and driving dynamics of the Aventador S with an emotive open air driving experience" is how Lamborghini describes this car, meaning that the Roadster features the four-wheel steering, uprated magnetic dampers, revised four-wheel drive and optimised ESC that has worked so effectively in the Coupe. There's more than 130 per cent more downforce over the standard Roadster. And, yes, the 'Ego' driving mode is definitely still there, Stefano Domenicali saying the car "sets new benchmarks in technology and performance on both road and track".

Want one? Course you do. The price is £251,462 as a suggested retail price with taxes excluded - call it £300K before you've had a look at the Ad Personam catalogue of paint and trim options. Now where's that 812 Barchetta?

Looks great, love the really low roof line, gives it a wonderful profile.

    Those rims are pure sex.

They make a beautiful noise with the roof down.

That does look sharp. Nice to see a car at this level that doesn't have a back end that resembles a badly packed kebab that's just finished entertaining a rugby club.

With this, the Ford GT and this week's special edition Lotus all sporting a nice electric blue, is this the new 'in' colour?
