BMW has a long and illustrious history of art and cars, bringing together some of its greatest models with the world's best-known artists. See Jeff Koons' take on the M3 GT2 and the M1 by Andy Warhol as perhaps the best two examples.
Well now BMW is at it again. Kind of. FUTURA 2000, a street artist born Leonard Hilton McGurr, will create "three exclusive and unique versions" of the M2 Competition. But in addition to those, there will be a limited-edition series of FUTURA 2000 Competitions for customers to buy from June.
What that will actually be we don't know just yet, because BMW has only released these pictures, though it is promising to capture FUTURA's "mastery of colour, concentric forms and kinetic composition". The first of the three one-offs will be revealed at the second Frieze Los Angeles in February. Anyone keen on that limited-edition car will have to wait, however, albeit safe in the knowledge that BMW M "is setting trends both in the high-performance vehicle sector and the art scene". We await more news with interest...
