Between 2 and 4 September,
Porsche Club GB will be celebrating its 50th anniversary
. Among all the on- and off-track goings-on (there will be track sessions at Castle Combe and Silversone) will be an auction, held by Coys.
The full list of lots will be limited to just 50 cars (we see what they've done there) and won't be ready until next week, but we've tracked down one of the cars to be offered, and it's a bit special.
Keen Porsche students might recognise this as the Tech9 car that hotshoe Sean Edwards drove to the FIA GT3 Championship in 2006. The following year the car was run in FIA GT3 again and, as a direct result of its success the previous year, the boffins at top secret Porsche competitions department in Weissach worked with Tech9 and used the car to develop the factory-sanctioned 2008 997 GT3'Cup S' model. As a result, the Tech 9 Porker was built up into full Cup S specification.
In 2009 it was fully rebuilt, and as you can see
from the link
the spec and standard of preparation is impressive to say the least, but what will happen to it next is hard to predict. It would be eligible to race in a number of series, and is equipped to do so (save perhaps for a freshly built motor), but with such provenance it could just as likely be bought as an investment and occasional heavy-duty track day toy.
Either way, I'd expect there to be considerable interest when the car is offered at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, where the Porsche Club GB festival is being held. It's for sale by Tech9 at the moment for £115,000, and it's highly unlikely that the car wouldn't make at least £100,000 at the auction.
But just in case you're thinking of bidding, don't' forget that as a competition car it will be subject to the dreaded VAT. And a personal plea here: if you do buy it please don't lock it away somewhere...
