Used Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk8 cars for sale

The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI showed that a hot hatch did not need class-leading power to be compelling. Its 245hp EA888 engine trailed the Honda Civic Type R and Ford Focus ST on paper, but strong low-end delivery, sharp responses and everyday usability kept the familiar formula relevant.

Volkswagen’s Vehicle Dynamics Manager worked with the electronic differential to deliver a more responsive front end and improve traction. As a result, the Mk8 felt faster and more focused than its predecessor, especially with the optional DCC adaptive dampers, without surrendering the breadth of ability expected of a Golf GTI.

The cabin was less successful. Unlit touch sliders, laggy MIB3 infotainment and overzealous warning chimes made simple tasks more distracting than necessary. Even so, those irritations did not obscure the quality of the underlying package. Touchpoint quality aside, the Mk8 was a rapid, polished and genuinely engaging hot hatch that remained true to the GTI’s broad remit.
