Combined with training I've been having a couple of whey protein shakes a day. So far I've been having Holland and Barratts one (precision engineered). The problem is unless its on a good offer it's quite expensive for how much you get and I've heard it suggested that it's not the best stuff. Can anyone recommend me a good online supplier and good brand to try? Ideally around the max £20 a kg range.
Cheers!
Cheers!
Should be able to get a tub from the well known brands (Sci-Mx, USN, Reflex, BSN, CNP etc) online for around £35 for a 5lb (2.25kg) tub.
I used to by big brand stuff, but have recently tried Myprotein. Their Whey protein is probably as good as the others, it's all pretty much the same unless it's a blend.
Works out a bit cheaper from them as well.

Myprotein for me too. Currently 5kgs of Impact Whey Protein is £41.49 Impact Whey Protein
I bulk buy it unflavoured and then use their flavdrops which are just £2.99 and will flavour about 25kgs of powder flavdrops

MyProtein.com is good stuff but they do one heck of a range so it may be difficult to determine which product best suits your needs. What are your goals? When and how often will you be taking it? Are you bulking or lean? etc...
You pre-empted my next post! I had a look on the my protein site and there does seem to be a vast array of stuff to choose from. With the Holland and Barrett Precision engineered stuff I'm taking it twice a day two scoops a time mixed with 250ml of skimmed milk. On training days I've started taking it about an hour before training and then straight after. On non training days its been in the afternoon and then evening time before bed.
When I started training I was 11 stone 4lbs. I'm up to 11 stone 12lbs now and am aiming for 12 stone 7lbs as my goal weight. I'm currently around 16% body fat and once up to weight am aiming to get that down to around 10%. I've been having the protein shakes to help bulk up. Using my fitness pal to help monitor I've been having about 3300 calories a day.
So what product would people advise - should I just stick with the standard whey protein (and what's the difference with that and whey protein isolate?)
Again, thanks for all the help so far.

Holland & Barrett stuff is low quality, avoid.
You realise your protein levels should be kept high on non-training days for recovery and growth? It doesn't matter too much if the protein comes from food or powder although I'd preference seeking protein from food.
Whey protein is fine for your needs (MyProtein impact whey). Whey isolate is slightly better for dieting although I don't think the difference is good enough to sanction the additional cost.
Also just be careful when measuring weight, its hard to tell what is muscle and what is fat without some good testing. It's far better to use measurements and pictures if you are measuring at home.

I've been having a pt session once a week at the gym and weight, body fat, muscle mass and fat mass has been measured there using their scales.Holland & Barrett stuff is low quality, avoid.

I've been trying to have at least 2g of protein per kg of body weight so most days have been about 150-200g of protein a day. About 60 grams of that has come from the protein shakes the rest from food. That has been on training and non-training days.
The impact whey was what I was thinking of going for looking at the my protein site.
Just thought I'd update this.
I've been trying for the last couple of days to place an order with my protein. Initially I had lots of problems with the site - the flavours and quantities I selected bore little resemblance to what showed up in my basket when I tried to buy the stuff. Eventually I managed to get the right stuff showing up and I entered the referral code provided above. This was accepted and the 5% discount showed up. I tried to pay and was prompted to sign up, which I did. It then took me back to my basket and the discount had now disappeared so I re-entered the code to be told it was only available on my first order (this would be!)
I tried to phone my protein and was left on hold for 20 minutes never actually getting to speak to anyone (long enough for the battery in the cordless phone to run out!) So I e-mailed them but so far no reply. I tried again to call today but was just left on hold again.
I got an e-mail just saying basically we note you've signed up but haven't placed an order, can we help which I've replied to.
So, so far my my protein experience is pretty rubbish and the call costs have more than eaten up the voucher discount. And I still have no protein to replace what I have that's about to run out
