Should there be a driver/team forum on the EERC site??
Discussion
I'm not saying for a moment that is forum is not of use, but it is "open" and as far as I can see only has a dozen or so directly involved contributors out of potentially a few hundred. How many EERC members are there ??
If we had something on the EERC site, would we attract input from more of our fellow competitors? Those not directly involved could also contribute but by signing on as interested parties for I don't believe they should be excluded from airing their views. I see this as a way of getting more teams and competitors involved in "light hearted " discussion

Excellent idea, as long as people see it as constructive critism, and not a personal attack on themselves. The EERC forum should belong on the EERC website and be accessed by EERC registered members.
Personally I feel it would be better to have some control via a moderator on your own site than a total lack of it on a competitors site.
(This is my own personal opinion)

I think an EERC moderated forum would be a disaster. No one wants to see any form of criticism on their public website and as a result the forum would lose all it`s bite. It would turn into a toothless arena.
There are some posts on here where people have an axe to grind or are just off their trolley but we all spot those a mile off.
The EERC may not like all they read on here but can learn from some of the points that hurt. What they can do though is take great comfort and pride from the positive posts because they are not "forced" posts. If you want to get your letter published you start by using the words, "Dear sir can I start by saying Hamster Spanking Monthly (as a random example from my coffee table), is the best specialist interest publication on the planet, it really hits the spot" you then go on to mention that the Hamster featured on page 76 of issue 43 was actually a Gerbil but they only print or remember the first part.

What about a members only site, we all have our EERC membership cards and as far as I know, joining the EERC is open to anyone who is prepared to give full details of who they are. If it's not then it should be as it could also provide another income for the club. We all pay our dues via race entry fees, non race members could join for a small fee and thus get access and join in and I'm sure there could be other benefits for them so doing. I like this forum and intend to use it regardless but if I had, shall we say, a more involved point to make, I would feel happier within a members only forum to express myself in greater detail.
Rod, I tend to agree with you regarding a members only area in the EERC site. Personally, I am happy to verbalise my feelings to anyone that will listen but many might not be so forthright and I can understand that.
However, surely the question is - who is listening? We can say "how about this; thats a good idea; lets try that" but unless the EERC are listening and want to make changes we are wasting our time. I am still prepared to give it a go but sometimes I believe the powers that be are completly deaf! Lets hope I am wrong!
Cheers,
Richard.
P.S. James - how about sending an email to all the club members indicating changes, if any, that you are contemplating. It would stop a lot of speculation!

I don't think it is necessarily a question of being forthright but more that of being aware that what you say on an open forum could be turned into Chinese whispers.
I believe that the EERC keep an eye, close or otherwise on this forum, as to if they take on board things that are said or suggested, well that remains to be seen !!
I think a closed forum would an excellent idea. That way everyone on it would know who everyone else was - no hiding behind handles that mean nothing logged in anonymously, etc...
Heated debates can easily be defused with Mr Tucker's digital stop-n-go penalty, or even a full black flag, report to the CoC.
But it could stimulate some interesting conversation between those who do, and those who say you can (or can't) do.
And without the need for Chinese whispers.

My pistonheads login may be anon but explain how that makes comments less or more effective?
My recent comments have more or less centred around the fact that no one can explain why the Duller Z4M or 997 cup cars are put into the GT3 class. Then I go on to comment that the 2008 class structure is meaningless without the detail behind the class labels.
How does knowing who I am change the validity of those things? It doesn't.

I think I speak for most of us on here when I say that we really don't give a Flying F8ck who you are. It is just amusing (although a little pathetic) that you are being very aggressive on here and picking fights with people who you clearly know, yet you don't have the courtesy to to tell them who you are. Outside of this forum we are all having quite a laugh about the whole thing. So, thanks for the entertainment!

Anonymity in a forum can make a big difference. Just imho.

The difference to me is that it stops the 13yr-old pretending to not be Allan McNish getting up people's noses talking bollox all day long.
While it is true that 13yr-olds can occasionally make perfectly sound judgement decisions, they are generally full of acts of immature thought.
We have them on other forums, joining in discussions, talking about things they know nothing about, yet claim to know to PhD standard. However, in this case, it's knowing to P iston h eaD standard.
Were there a Open University Doctorate in "talking bollox" 2PF would have qualified with distinction looking at his other vitriolic fact twisted/lacking posts.
And I know. I am a Professor.
