What a bizarre threat to make. Still. Whatever keeps you off the streets and out of trouble, eh...
Its not a threat but I can imagine most people would react this way.

My step brother - 48 - died from this virus. He's survived enough flus and other diseases people say are "as bad if not worse". He was a bit overweight, and had some blood pressure problems that were perfectly manageable with medication. But he got the virus and died from it. His gran has also passed away from it, although being in the late 90s thats somewhat less of a surprise.

I don't really get the comparisons to outing our gay neighbours and all the other lovely stuff that was illegal in years gone by. I somewhat expect people to take reasonable precautions to try prevent spread. Whats the worst that can happen? You are inconvenienced for 10 days? Its the same rubbish as the mask war. I cant be sure they work, but I cant be sure they dont. So whats the worst thing that can happen wearing them while in the shops? Given the potential good they could do, why not?

If you want to really know what is going on with COVID and how the government scientists (vaccine sales people for big pharma) are ignoring the science then watch this factual evidence based explanation, and share it!

Why do you think this guy knows what he's talking about?? Answer: because you want to believe the conclusions he draws. That's irrational.

And this bilge: "the government scientists (vaccine sales people for big pharma)" ... your "govt scientists" are actually UK university academic epidemiologists ... i.e. people who study the spread of diseases, not people trying to make new vaccines or selling stuff. Assuming they're bent is not just idiotic but also displays a degree of mindless cynicism that you should be ashamed of. If you were doing their job, would you set out to fk over the rest of the population? No? Then why on earth would you assume that they would?
Assume you think Boris is a jolly good chap and his government isn’t lying and corrupt, and don’t aim to break international law, whilst telling everyone else to obey their own crazy laws. Wake up and smell the facts rather than the hype you are being sold by the privately owned (government influenced) press and the big pharma who want to make billions out of an untested vaccine delivered to us by untrained people. And if you don’t believe the last point, it’s one of the government proposals they formally published last week!

Now answer you own question, why are the UK government scientists so wrong on this matter? Why aren’t they considering Sweden and learning from the success of their their scientific decisions. Why are the UK government scientists telling us we have the ‘potential’ for exponential growth in cases when that is not the case in France or Spain, who are several weeks ahead of the UK. Why are the UK government scientists calling this an epidemic now not a pandemic, which is less serious but are still proposing more restrictions? Why are UK government scientists ignoring the COVID death rate compared to the impact the restrictions is having on other illnesses? Why are they ignoring the science?

Paying that mortgage is such an inconvenience for those self-employed people. Perhaps the banks will just let them off the money they owe that month?

Likewise, buying food to feed oneself and one's family is most inconvenient. Perhaps if they lose some weight they'll improve their chances against this plague that's killing a whole 20ish people a day out of a population of 60ish million?

Yeah. Travelling during a pandemic while on a knifes edge of mortgage affordability? Where is the world's smallest violin?

Glad you mentioned self-employed. I wonder what the view of employers would be on this situation.

Simple. Don't be that dick who thinks its clever to put everyone else at risk by ignoring the rules, when flying back from a high risk area.

Would you also like a picture drawn, as if for a young child?

And why do you think that, given the opinion of the scientific community? (Genuine question)
Because the scientific community say that the current case level is overstated by a factor of 10 due to the amount of false positives. 1000s of ‘cases’ a day are not actually positive for covid at all.
Politicians including grant shapps and Matt Hancock have stated on camera they don’t understand what false positives are. The country is being locked down due to inaccurate testing. This isn’t my theory as I’m not an expert, the experts are saying it, just look into it yourself. Here’s a link to start you off.

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/operation-moonshot...
Replying to this as its the main point that isnt getting nearly enough attention.

Nearly 1% of all tests are false positives - without a retest which isnt happening as there is a shortage of tests the level of positives are being hugely overstated which only gets worse the more testing you do.

Also, the test looks for the presence of covid, regardless of whether its at a level where the person is infectious to others, or some trace elements that indicate that a person had it months ago but cannot pass it on to others.

I'm no tin foil hat supporter but this is just a farce at this stage.

A government looking to be seen to 'do something' without really having any idea what its doing.

No, I think thats a common misunderstanding.

If (as an example) 2% of all tests are positive, and 1% of all tests are false positives, then the amount of positives are potentially overstated by 50%

Very true, but you can take that error rate into account when looking at how the aggregate test results change over time. And if you think about the implications, it isn't a source of comfort. If you see the rate of infection increasing rapidly from some initially small-but-still-overstated infected population, it means the transmissibility of the infection is greater than your testing would suggest without an attempt to adjust for false-positive results.

Bit ambiguous.

You mean questioning what the hell is going on?

Or you mean believing what the experts advise?

The level of total idiocy on this thread beggars belief.

You’re worried about the impact of the covid pandemic on other conditions such as cancer? Yes, because other resources have had to be diverted to dealing with covid then more people will die of these conditions.

The fix for that is not more COVID.

If Covid is rampant in the community, then anybody with a pre-existing condition such as, ooooh I dunno, cancer is far more likely to die of it.

It’s an easy target for the thoughtless and the cruel to say things like morbidly obese diabetic people will die and that’s no loss to society “overall”. But who are they to make a value judgement on the worth of another human being’s life? What about the hundreds of thousands of people with other underlying conditions who do not fit that lazy, arrogant template?

A second wave was not inevitable. We are now where we are because of a combination of the stupid and the arrogant deciding that the guidelines do not apply to them.
