A bit of me is with the OP.
The penalty does seem harsh for a minor lapse of concentration perhaps. Maybe his first offence in n 100,000 miles of driving?
Do we know what the penalty is yet?The penalty does seem harsh for a minor lapse of concentration perhaps. Maybe his first offence in n 100,000 miles of driving?
As for the first offence, the impression I formed is that that's the speed he normally drives along that road at, if that's the case, then it's first time he's been caught rather than the first offence.
Is it just me or are we seeing more of these threads started by people who seem unable to think clearly, if at all?
We all know the rules. We all know how the game is played. It really isn't that hard to play and not to lose. Anyone who does has no one but themselves to point the finger at.

Funnily enough, I was thinking the same...
Strangely likeminded...who'd a thunk it !Also, the constant idiocy about others being cardigan wearing mummy's boys who live at home. Do you actually realise that you come across as some sort of child who has just been told off by mummy. Been playing online shooters and getting killed a lot? Someone found out that the roofs you install are rubbish and have more leaks than the Titanic? Been reported to trading standards or something?
I know what it is. I bet you are on an episode of rogue traders. And you aren't on the presenting team.
I got caught doing 33mph in a 30, by a laser trap, at the bottom of a hill. I actually thought I was doing 30.
They sent me to a course, and it was the best thing I have ever done, auto wise. It taught me a lot and I adhere to the advice given today, except for the part where the guy mentioned he feels it is his duty to slow traffic down so he does 55mph in the outside (third or fourth) lane on motorways.
Things I learnt:
- You can control the outcome of an idiot driver who is infront of you but not behind you, forget your ego and pull over and let them passed if they are harrassing you or you think they are drunk.
- Dont use a phone/satnav/change a cd etc whilst driving even if some of those are legal.
- Satnavs make no sense - there is no difference between operating a phone for satnav and a satnav but the industry is so large they cannot make it illegal. (seems to be some government corruption here).
- The realistic differences between stopping distances, how just 3mph can make a huge difference especially in an old car with out of date or high wear braking systems. Plus most people pass their test in a brand new car but own an old scrapper.
- Other things hard to put into context here, like if you drive down lanes and you look ahead and over some fields towards where the lane is going, if you see a flock of birds take off, this could mean a car is coming the other way - has saved my life a few times when I was young and stupid.
I kind of think they should force people to go on these every 5 years. It was 3 hours of droning, boring hell but I learnt a lot.
