Six weeks after birth everybody is issued with a Social Security Number, which should be a unique identifier.
And in the USA, SSNs - which are extensively used by a range of organisations as a unique identifier - are one of the biggest contributors to real Identity Theft (not what the UK media and Charles Clarke et al call ID Theft ... i.e. having your CC details cloned) - Streaky

Figures last week indicating that 35% of data on their database is incorrect...

So why does the database exist, then ?

Seems either we get rid of it because it's useless, or we do a better job and keep it.

I note with interest that the Police stopped using it on their ANPR activities because it made too many false positives.

Shutting it down would also cause a little bit of unemployment in Swansea.

Anyone have any idea how many folks depend on this databse for their employment ?
