I'd just like to say thanks to all the helpful BIB on here. I may never need your advice but it's very nice to know it's here if I do, and I'm a lot more informed about the background to policing and my rights (or lack of) AND responsibilities.

Always had respect for BIB but it's nice to put a human 'face' to them. Even Vonhosen who seems to get a lot of stick on here but he does actually offer some straight advice free of ill-informed emotion.

to you all.

Now, can anyone get me off this charge of failure to shine a motor vehicle regularly?

Be interested if there are any HATOs on PH - good to hear what their views are as they are more front-line than trafpol these days

They may drive slowly - but I could not honestly say I think these locals are safe to be near.

I agree.

Dumming down of drivers to go ever slower is just losing their ability to think for themselves, as only obsessed with how fast they are going.
More drivers now flash their lights at you when you overtake in perfect safety....

Yes, I encountered that nonsense twice yesterday afternoon. I did two overtakes, three cars at once on a long straight, then a single one at a nice curvy bit of road - but with good vision. In both cases I completed the overtaking, settling back onto my own side of the road long before the oncomers got too near, but I still received the headlight flashes!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Have you ever noticed with headlight flashes how late some of them are? That you can often be out into the danger zone, past the overtakee, and back on your own side of the carriageway before an oncoming driver flashes their lights?

If you consider that as the length of time between stimulus and control application, that's probably quite worrying.

Although I have a feeling it's more often the case that they weren't paying attention, and seeing something unexpected (like a car overtaking) comes as a nasty scare - hence the headlight flashing, horn bashing and general ire.

You don't think it's more to do with waiting until you're within a nice range before they bother to show you their displeasure? If someone flashes 400 yards up the road, you wouldn't be necessarily 'told off' would you?

Far better to ensure the perpetrator knows of their wrong-doing by waiting until they see the white of your grin.

He posts some top-notch advice, and it annoys me when yet another thread gets bogged down in a pointless ding-dong over the acceptability of exceeding the speed limit. Good on VH for sticking with us despite this.

Only just spotted this thread, been up in Scotland for just over a week. Had to take the Omega due to Mrs HW and my faithful furry friend on board, but hopefully I will get the chance to be up there in the Elise some day. Anyway, back on topic.......I certainly haven't thrown any toys out my pram, there's just been no threads I can get my teeth into. I've also been unable to spend as much time on PH as usual.

Plod do get a lot of stick here, but as I've said before it tends the be the usual suspects, the 'Keyboard Combatants' who like to spout off about everything yet couldn't punch their way out of a wet paper bag. The huge majority here are good as gold, but often just need to vent a bit of anger at The System, which I can completely understand.

Nice to see Plod back on board - two places we need you guys - in here and more importantly --- ON THE ROADS . You're sorely missed blokes --so stand up and take a bow - when i'm stranded on the hard shoulder - what do i want to see - A TRAFFIC CAR - and what do i not want to see- A plastic Policeman in a HATO LOOKALIKE CAR.

Perhaps that says more than a lot .

Well HW,
I am going to post a couple of threads shortly that you will be able to get your teeth into.
We need to inject a bit of excitement back into the forum!!
Hope you had a nice time up here; I was in Oban over the weekend and it was just gorgeous, despite the weather!
The system! How bad can it get before it improves?

Believe it or not the weather actually made a pleasant change. I don't like the hot weather one bit, it was nice to wear a jumper and the Barbour again! I didn't get to do the CalMac Iona tour unfortunately, mainly due to the dog, it was a holiday for him too after all!

My honest answer? It will probably get a lot worse unfortunately.....

Why?

What's wrong with the HATO when you are stranded on the hard shoulder?

Does ex-plod count? If so then I'm still here also. Although, with recent changes in legislation and laws/powers of arrest etc I'm beginning to feel like a dinosaur.

I like VH, sure he's often wrong on his reliance on speed limits but he seems to know his stuff and you have to admire his tenacity.

And DvD, now if ever a man was a walking legal encyclopedia it has to be him

I think Vonhosen kind of gives the 'establishment' reply whereas our BiB tend to give the 'this is how it is' reply. Which allows you to see it from both sides.
