We live on a private close with a single entrance and chatting to a few neighbours we were wondering abiut the cost and feasabiliity of installing an ANPR system to data log all vehicles coming/going.

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience?

Seems like a fair few, isn't a CCTV camera a better option? Rather a video than a list of registrations numbers, one of which may be a delivery driver

Also I am not sure the DVLA will give you details of the car owner anyhow (if you need them). They are not very helpful towards the public - big companies, parking enforcement etc, yes.

Might be worthwhile checking with them before you go to the expense of it all...only to find it irrelevant.

Possibly, but also if there is an issue relatively easy to discount.

Perhaps we should cost the each and both options.

Why anpr over recorded cctv? What will you do with a list of number plates?

I’d think it would be a waste of time and money, we have good cctv on our industrail est , we got the ref of the vehicle involved but it was on stolen or cloned plates !
I would think it would be better for individuals to all stick up cctv at £150 a pop , a would be theif would probably be a bit reluctant to enter such and estate with so many eyes on him and just go to the next one !
Another industrial est near us had a ANPR camera up, it flashed your number plate up on a big led sign , weirdly it had 4 entrances and only one camera , last time I drove past it wasn’t working and apparently is stopped 6 years ago!
You could pop over to Stevenage and steal it , doubt it would be missed and they would know your reg wink

ANPR is really for processing a large amount of data in a format which can be easily searched or analysed. Unless you have thousands of cars in and out you would be better off with a high quality CCTV system which can be checked when necessary.

Plenty of CCTV on my estate, and the several car thefts/burglaries we have had where the thieves have arrived in a car they have all been false plates. So ANPR would probably prove useless anyway.

As above, a decent commercial CCTV system (such as Hikvision) would be far more useful.

Seems like an over complicated way to find out who pays what for the resurfacing.
