A woman has been fined for eating a bowl of cereal at the wheel while driving on a motorway.

The 23-year-old was spotted by police who were using an unmarked HGV cab to monitor drivers on the M90.

She was pulled over after driving in lane two of the Queensferry Crossing in the direction of Edinburgh.

The woman was fined £100 and had three points added to her licence as part of Police Scotland's Operation Tramline scheme.

During the operation, officers have used the HGV cab to give them a good view of drivers.

A total of 85 offences were reported in the first two weeks of the initiative.

It is being trialled on dual carriageways and motorways in Fife, in and around Edinburgh and in the Forth Valley area.
Beware!

Thanks, I'll remember to have my breakfast before I get in the car if I'm in the area. Sounds like a good idea to me, must be easier to catch mobile phone scrollers too from a HGV

I think I heard about this in the news a while back
But haven't seen one myself

Although I will say, probably deserves the fine - a bowl of cereal laugh

A snack bar is one thing, that is quite another

Although, not sure how touching your phone to change your music is 6 points, and eating cereal is 3 points - I'd suspect cereal is just as distracting! Maybe we can do a study. hehe

They’ve been using the unmarked tractor units for several years now. No limiters on them either.

I recall an episode of one of those Police TV series things a few years back when they were doing just this to catch HGV drivers on mobiles.

There was a film clip released not too long ago. Truck driver on his phone. Saw the police truck filming him (didn't realise they were police) and gave them the finger.

I've ridden past one on an NSL dual carriageway. They've had enough publicity that it was easy to spot. They're more difficult to spot when they're towing a trailer though.

Thinking about it after I passed I kept my speed to around 70 mph, it didn't cross my mind at the time to think where the other police vehicles were that the cab drivers were communicating with to pull over drivers.

Love it! Does the HGV light up with concealed blues and come after you at 59 mph? I think high speed chases involving an HGV tractor unit is what we need - now THAT's an episode of Police, Camera, Action! I'd watch!

I don't see a problem with it. There are constant complaints about driving standards and people using their mobile phones. When the police do something to stamp out bad driving it always ends up with people criticising the police.

Good. Far too many people driving whilst using their phone around me. Maybe Northumberland Police can borrow it for a few weeks smile

If it's like a fire engine, lime to 80kph until the blues are switched on. Then the limiter is disabled. Truckers fall for it despite it being a plain white tractor unit without a trailer. This is the critical point, very rare to see a tractor without a trailer as it's not earning...
