Righty ho, I've just attended a very informative and enjoyable SAC as a result of being clocked at 58mph by an un-manned camera on the A54 near Wildboarclough.
Now, my thoughts were that SPECS were average speed cameras and the signage relating to these particular cameras notes then as such, I was hoping someone on the SAC could illuminate me as to how I managed an average of 58mph on that road - I reckon that speed, on that road makes me some kind of driving god.

Clearly I'm mistaken as to the operating method of these cameras, so my question is - how the fk do they actually get you?

As an aside, I was only exceeding the limit as I'd decided that due to the lack of cables or street lighting, that the chances of the cameras themselves having a power supply was slim. Oh hoe I laughed when the NIP arrived.

Heading west? Coming out of Buxton in the first twisty part there are places you could not touch, let alone average 50 mph. Some parts this time last year the surface was so broken up I was bouncing and hopping around at 20 mph.

Thought this would give some leeway once the A54 splits from the A537 and especially so in sight of the last camera?

Wrong.

Seems the average can be taken between any pair of cameras, not over the whole zone. Last but one and last are widely spaced and the road is more open here, and I would bet this is where you were pinged.

Like my er, "friend".

Ah. That sounds about right then.
