I love playing the game, though I haven't been playing for long, so dip in to this thread from time to time to see what others are doing. Unfortunately I don't understand most of the terms that people use to describe events, or ship fits or whatever, so usually leave none the wiser. There's so much to learn.

I still dont get half of it. Getting into a good Corp is key.

A few of us on here are in Senex Legio, really good bunch of guys. have alook on the website or talk to Mandown on here, if you are interested.

I haven't been putting in the PVP time in that I should do recently, mainly 'cause Im crap at it, but should be popping up regularly from now on. I'm Jen Shi'ko if you fancy dropping me a line in game.

The previous biggest fight, at Asakai about a year ago, was as a result of a simple miss-click of a mouse button.

Human nature is reflected really. You get the full spectrum of human interaction. From the douchebags who will try and gank brand new players, to others who will go well out of their way to help you.
When you look at some of the player run, and player created things, nothing else comes close.
You have a fully functional economy
You have massive power blocs, with all the politics, betrayal, spying, warring and murder that they entail
You have establishments such as player run Universities
Then you have thousands of other collectives of people, all striving towards their own common goal, often to the detriment of those in their immediate area.
You then have the dozens of out of game programs, such as killboards, economic links, ship fitting programs, all sorts.
All of this across various timezones, nations and language barriers.

There really is nothing else like it.
And then you have GoonSwarm Federation...

We have a potential recruit Im talking to at the moment, he just want to load everything he has up into a carrier, and use our cynos to get him here.
I'm trying to warn him of the dangers of that, but its like he doesn't understand, that someone will just cyno him, his carrier, and all he loves into a trap, and feel no remorse.
Do it tonight. We can all wait in space to welcome him...

That really does sound like either a spy or an awoker trying to get into corp.

You have a few options <puts dirty Goon scammer hat on>...

First thing; make sure you're cynoing him to a quiet mid point and don't tell him where your home system is.

Now, you can simply jump him to the mid point with a cloaked, scripted 'hictor on grid and as he's recharging his cap, point him, cyno in the rest of the fleet and murder him...

Or, tell him that the next jump is into a POS that is owned by a pretty paranoid director (make up something about a previous corp member stealing all of the reactions from it) and that only people with director level access have the password so he'll need to eject and let someone else jump in. As soon as he ejects, put the other character into the carrier, jump out and pod him home. Enjoy your free carrier.

Or, point him and tell him to eject or you kill the carrier. Killmail or a free carrier... Either way you win. <takes dirty Goon scammer hat off>

Drone Assist Capped

CCP Rise said:
Hello, some news:

Coming soon, in a Rubicon point release, we are planning to add a hard cap to the number of drones that can be assisted to a single player. Currently, we are planning to set that cap at 50.

As most of you surely know by now, drone assist has been a very hot topic over the last 6 or so months. Archons began showing the power of sentry doctrines before that, and the addition of tracking and optimal bonuses for drones on the Ishtar and Dominix catapulted this philosophy into the forefront of fleet warfare. The resulting meta is causing two major problems that we hope to address through this change.

We feel that drone assist, at a large scale, leads to passive gameplay that most players do not enjoy. Assist places too much control in the hands of a single person and leaves the majority of the fleet with little to do. note: we spent a lot of time considering the value in delegation of ship systems and navigation overall (why not have assisted turrets? why have fleet warp? etc) and while this discussion will likely continue, we feel it depends heavily on the amount of delegation taking place. Amount might refer to the time something is delegated or the importance of the system being delegated (is it a primary system or a secondary one). Moral of the story: while some cases of drone assist can be fun, large fleets based on assist are not.

Drones, for the time being, are the most taxing weapon system for our hardware, which means overall play experience has suffered some because of the popularity of sentry doctrines.

We are making this change primarily to address the first point, but also hope to have a positive effect on performance by allowing more room for other weapon systems in the fleet meta.

Why a flat cap?

We believe a flat cap will:

Limit large scale assist substantially
Leave room for smaller scale assisting (there are several use-cases for assist that we wanted to preserve, such as incursion drone managers)
Be very easy to communicate to players
Affect carriers more heavily than sub-caps (because they can field 10 drones per ship rather than 5)

This solution meets each of these points in a more effective way than any others we considered.

Why 50?

To arrive at 50 we began by starting at complete removal of assist, and worked our way back up until we had caught all the use-cases for assist that we didn't want to impact negatively. That included frigates on gates trying to catch cloakers, small fleets trying to use assist to avoid e-war, logistics pilots who are too busy to manage their drones, and most importantly, incursioners. We believe 50 will leave all these uses unharmed while also heavily discouraging large fleet use. If it turns out that fleets are still able to rely on assist easily at 50 (which we feel is unlikely) we can and will make further adjustments.

Before I go, I want to say that we've been looking at this for some time now. We've watched the discussion in the community evolve and also kept a close eye on TQ behavior. We began discussing this change with the CSM via internal forums just prior to the summit, and then spent significant time discussing it in person with them during the summit. Their feedback was valuable, as always, and gives us confidence that this is a good direction.

As always, leave your feedback and we will do our best to answer any questions.

Going to be some war departments frantically rebuilding doctrines right about now.
Wont really effect us too much, we will probably need a second drone bunny on our bigger ops, but to be honest, that wont be any major drama. We also have several non-drone doctrines that we use as well, so we are good to go.

Its only really going to effect the major sov guys, and well, that doesn't really concern me. (no offense)
Was just thinking exactly that.

Haha, he is winning at the moment for sure!
It was a hellishly close run fight, they sat on our undock in a 25 man kitchen sink fleet of T1 cruisers, fast tackle, Blaster Naga's and a trio of Ishtars.

There were only a few of us online, naturally, we attacked.

FC was target calling as fast as he could, a friendly in a Hictor shot out to trap them, while a corp member in a Proteus got to work clearing fast tackle.

They were dropping quickly, but not quickly enough to save a nearby Geddon from going pop, next, I saw things targeting me. My shields vanished, my armour started dropping, I called for reps, and they started landing, but my armour was still dropping, I overheated all the things on my alt, as did a couple of other, and as my finger hovered over the MJD, reps held at 8%

The dead Geddon Pilot reshipped into a Sabre, as the Hictor pilot didnt survive, unaware of our rep range.

The enemy, unable to break me, tried to run. we think about 7 of them made it, leaving behind a little over a billion isk in wrecks behind them, for a return of a single Geddon.

Killboard green.

In sadder news, I lost my Tornado tonight to a pair of Ishtars, after nailing their Interceptor frown
I still only managed to decipher about 50% of that, but it sounded like fun.

I really ought to learn more about PvP setups, but it's a bit difficult in TechI ships as you tend to get your ar5e kicked. lol

Whilst a popular saying is to fly tackle in a t1 frigate, I personally reckon that battlecruisers are cracking ships to learn in because they have enough hp to rectify a mistake, or at least to see where you went wrong before you go pop. t1 frigates just go pop. Another alternative is a standoff ship like a blackbird. operating at range means you can see whats going on, and will hopefully have a chance to see trouble coming your way before they scram you. It does tend to make you primary though :/ currently trying out t1 logi ships to see if they attract aggro the same way.

What does flying tackle actually mean/involve? I'm assuming some sort of electronic warfare fit, but no idea what.
