- Your Top 5 from 2014 -
Discussion
Welcome, one and all, to the 5th (!) annual "Your Top 5 From..." thread!
You lot know the score by now, but for those who are new:
This thread is just a bit of fun and reflection over the past year. It's not a competition just a celebration of what you consider to be your favourite photos from the past year.
It's also a nice way of looking back at how you've progressed as a photographer over the past 12 months. So if you like someone's work then why not leave them a comment
..and no squeaking in an extra photo if you can't whittle it down to 5! It's not christmas yet so I'll be sending Santa a communique about any rule infringement
(previous "Your Top 5 From..." threads: 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010)
So to start things off....

I've been having some fun this year!
Mt Cook/ Hooker lake. 2nd time hiked in with very little sleep, camping in -15, frost forming on bags and gear whilst shooting. Epic.
Second Time Lucky by robjdickinson, on Flickr
So ^ that was sunrise, this after sunset 8 hrs drive away at Milford sound.
Milford by robjdickinson, on Flickr
And a bit of a long exposure at Wanaka.
One Calm Tree by robjdickinson, on Flickr
First proper full aurora australis shoot at Magnet Bay
Magentic Magic by robjdickinson, on Flickr
And shooting a pretty uneventful sunset at Lake Heron

Great start FPC, interesting mix of images as well!
Particularly like #3
Rob, number two = mind blown
DD I love one and two!
Here's mine.. Three of which are from the same week but the shooting conditions for each shot vary wildly and I think they're some of best aviation images to date (even if I do say so myself!)
1. 1/10th handheld during a night launch to provide CAS
201 Squadron Falcões F-16AM by lloydh.co.uk, on Flickr
2. Two PoAF 751 Squadron EH101 Merlins, the lead cab having just returned from a night mission. The pilots flicked the NVG friendly lights on for me to bath the cockpit in green and one of the avionic techs moved the light behind the cab upwards to reflect off the rotor..

3. PoAF 751 Squadron EH101 Merlin crewman looking out for the enemy, a PoAF 201 Squadron F-16AM during a dissimilar evasion sortie.

This is definitely one of my favourite threads of the year in this forum, it's seriously insane the level of talent we have in here for it being a sub-section on a "car forum".
Being back in the USA most of this past year meant I could return to some of my favourite spots on the west coast such as Yosemite, Crater Lake etc, so they feature high in my personal favourite shots from this past year. It certainly wasn't easy picking my favourite 5, leaving out shots of double rainbows over a tourist boat in the middle of the spray at Niagara Falls, sunrise over half dome, storms rolling over the old man of storr and double rainbows following behind, and of course some of my first "phone app" released shots from the 6D of me and Mrs Baz in full tartan wedding outfits out having a laugh on Vatersay and several other spots on the hebrides in August/September this year for phase 1 of our honeymoon.
Anyhoo, in no particular order here's the first of my 5 favs from this year, taken the same day as number 2 after getting up at stupid o'clock to kick off what would be a long day of driving and snapping, sunrise over the Golden Gate Bridge north of San Francisco.
San Francisco Sunrise Teaser 1 by www.bazpics.com, on Flickr
Number 2, shot later in the same day while enjoying the late winter snowcaps and being showered with ice from the trees surrounding the South West shore of Lake Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe - 140 by www.bazpics.com, on Flickr
Number 3, my first visit of what turned out to be five trips to Yosemite this year (7th time in the last 12 years), and features Mirror Lake....with me spending the best part of 2 hours shooting around the lake to try and capture the reflections in the perfectly still water (as it was a particularly windy day all in all).
Yosemite Teaser 3 by www.bazpics.com, on Flickr
Number 4 on this years list is from my visit to Crater Lake, quite simply as I couldn't have picked a better day to capture those absolutely surreal blues in the lake, it really is a place that has to be seen in the flesh to be believed. So many people don't believe the water can possibly be so blue, but after you've stood on the crater rim for your first time you never doubt it again.
Crater Lake - 145 by www.bazpics.com, on Flickr
And number 5, somewhere that I find myself just sitting on the wall in awe every single time I visit, and it never ever gets boring to do so...tunnel view in Yosemite.
Yosemite - 328 by www.bazpics.com, on Flickr

Thanks Chris, back there in a few weeks, spending a few days hiking the peaks and camping! Cant wait.Possibly not my strongest five but it's five i really like
And its all about what you like I think!
Some cracking stuff on here as per usual. Loving the bike shot nellytheelephant.
Beem quite a quiet year for me photography wise but a few that I've enjoyed taking:
1. First trip to Chicago. Ridiculously cold but a fantastic city. Hard to pick a favourite but I settled on this one after much deliberation.
chic 27 by G.A.D, on Flickr
2. Manual focusing an 85mm at 1.4 is always a little hit and mainly miss. Add in my hyperactive daughter on a swing and you're down to lottery odds. An awful lot of luck and 9 fps helped this one.
GAD_2269 - Version 2 by G.A.D, on Flickr
3. First serious attempt at medium format. Not an award winning photo but I like it because of the additional effort that went into taking it, i.e. lugging the Bronica to France, walking into town with it, setting it up on tripod, waiting for the light, check metering, check again, check a third time. Take photo. Get it developed. Scan it. Scan it again and again until it actually looks like a photograph. Will be doing more of this sort of thing.
Becci by G.A.D, on Flickr
4. Love the blue hour. Haven't spent enough time shooting in conditions like this in 2014 so this one is the highlight.
GRA_2888 by G.A.D, on Flickr
5. A very local scene. Everything seemed to come together nicely for this one. Seems rare that happens.
GAD_1547 by G.A.D, on Flickr
Hoping that 2015 is the year I start dabbling with digital IR (have bought my R72 already). Want to do plenty more film medium format too.
