Anyone already p***ed off with the 20 MPH limit in Bristol
Discussion
Probably like many the new 20MPH limits came in force over the past few weeks. Anyone pissed off with this already
Just got a texted from the wife saying she thinks (hope not) that their is a camera on the kingsway St George that may have caught her taking the kids to school. She was doing around 25.
it seems madness on a long wide road to lower the limit.
Plus one road is a 30, then 20 then back to 30 then 20 again. I live about 1/2 mile from south glos borders.
Sorry just annoyed with our daft major who seems intend in doing his best to pee off every car/bike owner int eh city

My work/business is in South glos but I need to go into bristol for it. not fun and worse now
I wonder what ferguson did to find out who wanted the 20MPH in the first place. My best it is he talked to all the cyclists, Anti car groups in the area and left out the people who use the roads the most
As per normal these days.
Anyone know the best way (and legal) to get him out of power

so they implemented this in my village/town a few months back and I got to say its not as bad as you would think, the reasons are..
1) no one obeys it... 99% of all drivers where I live don't bother sticking to 20, you might get the odd one once a month..
2) the police have fully admitted they cant enforce it... (which helps with number 1)
my issue is it cost millions to implement, and it doesn't even work.... (and it was a stupid idea anyhow)
I twitted Georgey F to ask him if he thinks it actually worked, stating the above..... he never replied..
how long till we can get him out?
I would have agreed with all of this a few weeks ago, however the fact now stands that THE SCP ARE NOW ENFORCING IT! Massive peril. 1) no one obeys it... 99% of all drivers where I live don't bother sticking to 20, you might get the odd one once a month..

The fact that not all roads are 20MPH, you can go one road to the next and the speed limit changes. People including myself are unsure if the next corner I come to will have a mobile camera and with the little 20MPH signs around they can be missed I'm surprised if anyone knows what road is a 30 and what is a 20 anymore
Utter madness.
HELP BECOME A PACE CARS WTF
Pace Cars
Help keep speeds low in your area!
The council are working with the police to ensure that roads included in the 20 mph schemes look and feel like a slower road to help drivers comply with the speed limit, but you as a driver can also play a role to reduce speeds by becoming a PACE CAR!
If you wish to become a Pace Car email 20mph@bristol.gov.uk and ask to become a PACE CAR. A car sticker will be sent out for you to put in your car and a sticker to put on your dashboard. When people are driving behind they will see the sticker and understand why you are driving at a slower pace.

These have proved popular with residents: 82% support the 20mph speed limit post-implementation.

To be fair, the 40 limit is because the barrier is apparently shagged. Wouldn't be surprised to see it become permanent though.
I was pleased to see the Safety Camera Partnership out at 7.30 on Saturday morning policing the dangerous inbound stretch of Feeder Road though. Great work- picking the only time when you'd manage to exceed 30 and the least dangerous time of week for that road.
Would make you think the camera was only there to make money. Much like reducing a road to 20MPH, still having flashing 30MPH signs up and putting a mobile speed camera on that road.
So what speed is it on that road? Not fukcing idea

How dare you suggest it's not safety related!
What's that road you speak of?
Kingsway in St George which is now a 20MPH. Difficult to do under 30 and thats most of the elderly local who keep telling me that What's that road you speak of?
https://goo.gl/maps/w6CNP
They will hide between cars so they can view just over the top of them. Sneeky s
Well we all know that this 20MPH will result in 2 possible ways. People will still get injured and killed on our roads. Will this mean that 20MPH is still to fast or people are knobends and take little care when crossing roads etc.. Which they are. Or Ferguson will be removed from office and 20MPH will stay but only on small side roads by homes and not major roads.
Either way I feel many more people will be caught for speeding and when people are injured/killed on the roads more anti car groups will say it's a result of speeding

Although this thread will mostly be read by people local to the area I just want to add something for readers elsewhere.
The Bristol mayor who introduced the lower speed limits is a keen cyclist (nothing wrong with that IMHO) but is also openly anti car.
The 20 mph speed limits might have been a good idea in front of schools or elderly persons homes but have appeared in odd places IMHO. What annoys me is that the mayor was caught speeding in Bristol and shrugged it off as not important as he was late for something! Surely that's when cars are at their most dangerous.
Add to that the fact he has introduced a raft of parking restrictions and the council now charge many residents up to £90 per year to park outside of their own homes, or his turning back on of speed cameras despite there being no rise in accidents while they were turned off and we have a mayor that is already costing Bristol several millions in lost revenue both in lost tourism and businesses relocating elsewhere.
I don't live in or near Bristol but isn't this guy duly elected? The Bristol mayor who introduced the lower speed limits is a keen cyclist (nothing wrong with that IMHO) but is also openly anti car.

If so and if the general public on the whole are opposed to his general behaviour when it comes to traffic "calming" measures why doesn't someone run against them at the next opportunity or alternatively speak with his/her main opponents with the aim of reversing the changes and tell them how many votes it would give them from the driving public? Just an idea....
I will be voting for anyone else when we are able to so we can get this guy out before he kills bristol
Anyone noticed the stupid places they have put the 20 limits. The wife mentioned it to me over the weekend
You go along a wide straight road (20 limit) get to within a 100 yards of a some lights and it goes to a 30 limit. Then 100 yards after the lights it's back to a 20?
So the council want people to speed up the closer they get to a set of lights????
Whats all the about. fking more daft ideas of making the roads safer

I got a email today at work to help to keep the 20 limit and extent this

Why are people so blind they think dropping 10MPH will make people more aware of the traffic and look before crossing a road. How many of you have had people young and old not look or just have poor perception when it comes to traffic and simply crossing the road.

You're a bit wide of the mark if you think you cannot move efficiently in a city around at 20mph vs 30mph. If everything moved at 20mph in London it would be a bloody godsend, but it doesn't average speeds are far far below 20mph.
I've not been to Bristol, but I imagine its a fairly busy place, just how wide is this 20mph limit? Is it really making any difference to journey times? I HIGHLY doubt it is...
Its 20mph round a lot of where I live, they're not super bothered about enforcing it but I know average speeds on journeys are so low that it makes little difference to the time it takes me to get anywhere.

it's not about the fact we have a new 20 limit but how it has been rolled out. IE in a stupid way. your on a long straight wide road. 20 limit. 200 yards before lights it then becomes a 30 limit!!!
Around small residential areas and schools, hospitals that's fine by me but turning my local main road, the Kingsway to a 20 is just stupid.
large wide road. Big grass verge on a lot of the road. No deaths on there in the 20 years i've been living and using the road daily.
You will be 20mph for a mile, then 30 for 400 yards, then 20 then back up to 30 for a set of lights then back to 20.
So it's more about how and where they have been introduced than the fact we have them at all

I average between 9 and 11mph over a 450mile range tank in London. Stop complaining.
What has that got to do with the 20mph limits in Bristol? Are we supposed to feel sorry for you? We don't want to end up like London (too late maybe) so we WILL complain!I don't have to drive in London so like above what the hell has that got to to with Bristol and a 20 limit there?
This is a public forum. I'm not complaining But expressing my views.
Like you have but strange your view has nothing to do with this thread
So back on topic.
